What type of G scale person are you? Are you a #1, someone that has to have everything in scale and every detail must be on your loco’s or cars? Or are you a #2, someone who wants everything in scale but the details on your loco’s and cars don’t matter? Or are you a #3, someone who runs any scale of loco’s or cars together and does not worry about details on your loco’s and cars? or are you a #4, you just have 1 or 2 loco’s or sets and you just set them up on the floor are run them from time to time, but your main train hobby is another scale such as HO or N scales? or are you a #5, you just collect G scale trains?.. You can be more than just one number, so pick the number or numbers that fit you best! I’m a #3 & #5 …

Well the answer has either to be 16mm or Gauge 3 -and thus I don’t use 45mm track either… If you are asking what sort of modeller I am -then the answer is 2. But what is important to me is that, (as far as possible), the locomotive operates in the same mechanical manner as the original. Mostly this means using electric motors rather than steam -or battery 6Volt DC instead of 1500Volt DC overhead power lines…

Lets put it this way, I’m half a #1, half a #3, and half a #4.
#1- The better, more realistic the locomotives and cars the better. This includes looks, sounds, and operation.
#3- I operate outdoors and freely mix brands and scales (1/24th, 1/29th, and 1/32md) but I want it to look real, that means lots of scale detail.
#4- My main TRAIN hobby is Collecting Old Toy trains (TCA member), or maybe photographing the real,1:1, thing, or maybe it is “G” gauge.
I don’t know why some act as if this question is a problem, we all are into model trains and the biggest gift we can give is to share with others… These are not poll’s or a company looking for clues on there next move, I just find it interesting of how people see there self in the hobby… I have been into model trains now for over 40 years and in G scale alone for over 24 years… We in this hobby have very many different type of people who all do the same thing but look at it in a different light, so that is why I came up with this question, not to make people mad or take a poll, just plain fun… You can make this hobby fun or you can make this hobby where others who are new to it not want to join by our actions. This hobby is for everyone, so lets make it fun…

MY BEST GUESS WOULD BE 2.5, I ONLY RUN THE SAME SCALE AS THE MOTIVE POWER.
I’m #1 & 2 - sort of. I try to put as much detail on as possible but don’t follow any specific prototype. I’m also sort of a # 4 in that I sometimes run the 45mm gaugers on the floor (rolling stock is scratchbuilt) around the perimeter of the room - Large Scale is robust enough to do this in and it enables me to have four foot radius curves in a San Francisco studio apartment. I also have Gn15 on a baseboard with scenery and scratchbuilt structures and rolling stock. If I had the space I’d put the 45mm gaugers on a baseboard as my approach to Large Scale is from a model railroader’s perspective. The main allure of Large Scale for me is the detail possible and the ease of working with it - especially scratchbuilding. I still have some On30 but I’m working on it less and less due to the fact I am spoiled by working with Large Scale - On30 just ain’t fun anymore!
OK, after DW posted , I guess I’m a 2.57689. 1:29th, and if the rail is 1/8" off I don’t care.
I’m a #4. I’d also be a #2 if I could figure the scales out.

I find it a bit rude to anonymously talk about someone rather than directly to them.
That said, I’m sorry if you took my simple suggestion of tabulating the answers to the questions (if you prefer that word over “poll” - a questioning or canvassing of persons selected at random or by quota to obtain information or opinions to be analyzed) you have posted in the forum as a problem.
My answer of none of the above was an honest one as my style of garden railroading does not fit into one of the five boxes you have described above. If the question had been “Describe your style of garden railroading”, I could have given you an accurate answer.

Over 55 years in model railroading…so, that makes me a “55” for the poll.
I guess I’m between #2 and #3. I’ll run everything in one train at the same scale (as far as I know) but I will run 1:20.3, 1:22.5 and 1:29 trains on the same railroad. All the kids, family, and friends who have seen my temporary layouts have said they are great and they had fun. No one has commented that anything looked out of place. But then, I haven’t had any other serious model or garden railroaders over yet…
