What was that???

On Saturday I was returning home from New Jersey, and on the way past Secaucus station (It’s right by the Turnpike), and saw an AEM-7. Same as always. But after the station a maintenance train goes by, led by a GP38…but what’s this? At the end of the train there was a locomotive in Amtrak’s new blue & silver paint scheme. It was a hood unitI don’t know if it was just the view that I had at the time, but the cab appeared larger than usual. The GP-38 at the front had the silver and black- topped paint scheme. I beleive the number of the strange locomotive was 722, but I’m not fully sure.

Even more unusual was that upon arrival to Stratford,I saw the Waterbury commuter train, but at the rear ( the Waterbury local is a push-pull train) was an Amtrak, #833. This I am sure of. This was very unusual, because 1) there was a CTDOT cab car at the front, 2) Amtrak doesn’t opperate diesels between New Haven & New York, and 3) Amtrak’s Springfield- New Haven trains don’t run to Bridgeport and points southbound with diesels or CTDOT equipment.

The last part may be similar to the topic "“Foreign” locomotives ".

Is this what you saw?

The Amtrak 800’s are now surplus power so some of them are being leased (sold?) to CDOT or Metro-North for use on their diesel lines.

Thank You dharmon, that is exactly what I saw. So it’s a GP-15D.Hmmm. And thank you CSSHEGEWISCH for the info on the Amtrak loco I saw in Stratford. Now only if I could make a model of that GP-15D…

Those things are pretty in that scheme.

Wow, that’s cool… I didn’t know they had those now.
