I thought the new Phase IVb paint scheme was Phase V, but I was wrong. I still wonder what Amtrak Phase V might look like on coaches. I think it might be similar to what’s on the locomotives…a blue wave of sorts along the top of the coach and the red stripe at the bottom. What do you think?
If the funding doesn’t come through, it will be invisible.[swg] (couldn’t resist)
Lets see if Amtrak even thinks about incoperating the Toyota Tundra on the coaches as a part of the phase V scheme I don’t think it’ll look soo hot. Then ti will most likely look like a yucky Septa (Southeastern PA Transporation Authority) bus or something lol!!! However if they just went with the regular phase V scheme I think it wouldn’t be soo bad.
Maybe Amtrak should sell the paint rights for individual cars to whoever wants a coach or other type carnamed after them say maintenance of the paint on the coach for a year with your name on a nameplate on the side for $10,000. or fifteen thousand for two years. Might be a way for Amtrak to raise some badly needed funding. If someone wants an engine named after them the cost would be #15,000.00 for the first year and $25,000.00 for two years. Just a thought
Well, the Acela scheme was supposed to be phase V. Some of the Amfleet cars were painted into that scheme as well in anticipation of the change. I think Gunn vetoed the change and I beleve those cars were repainted into phase IV b.
Hmmm, billboard passenger cars. Not really that outregeous, buses and light rail trains already do it.
I saw paint each train in its former railroad colors. All trains on the Northeast Corridor should be painted pennsy colors. The city of New orleans should be painted IC Brown and Orange. The Southwest chief should be pulled by Santa Fe warbonnet engines. It would be the Amtrak rainbow era of the 1970’s all over again.
^^ ha you kidding me, when Amtrak took over the Super Chief Santa Fe demanded they change the name because the service and quality was so poor, and they didn’t want to have the old and new compared. Sticking Warbonnets on the front? Well lets only do that if they take the Stripes off the side of the cars.
As far as I know, SD Coaster is correct. The Acela scheme would have been Phase V. You can see these scheme on Bachman’'s recent HO Amfleet I releases. This would have corresponded with a rebranding of some NEC services as Acela even if they were not high speed. But Gunn vetoed it.
Personally, I think Amtrak should pick a scheme and stick to it for a while. I’m glad the pointless arrow is gone but Phase III seemed good enough for me. With their funding problems, constantly changing paint schemes is a waste of money IMO.
