With fossil fuels running out more and more, we will have none left in possible 20 years, maybe 10 years. Trains require fossil fuels. So do cars, boats, snowmobiles, ATV’s, motorcycles. All of those things many people enjoy, but may not be able to have in the future. I hope this world will be able to find a way to still live a good life, while not using fossil fuels. If you have any concerns about this or any ideas, let me know.
By then, all the StarGates will be up and running…no worries!
Ed
We will either find a way to adapt, revert to an agrarian society, or become extinct. I’d put my money on adaptation, though I wouldn’t be surprised at the agrarian option, either. Extinction doesn’t seem likely, but only time will tell all.
Hopefully, by then, we will figure something out to keep things maintained not having to use fossil fuels. By the way, wctransfer will probably come and post post post!
What are StarGates?
For sure the younger generations should really/truly be worrying about this subject as you are ones who will have to deal with it in the next 10/40 years. How to fix it is going to take a huge amount of rethinking by Americans on how to use oil & its related products. I have switched my portfolio mostly into energy stocks since the price of gasoline should continue its upward movement. I live in SE Florida & here gas is now $2.35 per gallon up about $0.15 from just one month ago. [:o)][:p][:)]

Wonderfull! Now we just need it to drop another another 45 nickels and it will be free! then people will come and take all the remaining gas, and then the country will relize, Hmmm, we need to do something about this. [;)]
Ben,
Troll eleswhere, but to counter your statement…
another 45cent drop wouldnt make it free, might make its price closer to the 1975 price.
It isnt the supply of crude…there is plenty of that…its the ability to produce the products from it…and as the demands seems to be outstriping the current ability to make it, the price goes up for the available supply.
If it bothers you that much, buy a bicycle…
Ed
Ok, what is trolling? If it’s like star chasing, for god sakes, I can post if I want. Also I said 45 NICKELS, not cents. Do the math buddy.
If it become that much of a problem, technology is there to electrify the whole system. As far as powerplants go, nuclear power is the easiest option to solve the overwhelming amount of wattage, France is testing a fusion reactor-the world will see how sucessful that is in the next 20 years, there is enough volcanic activity in the states to build Geothermic plants, solarplants in the monjove desert, wind turbines, natural gas powerplants, plants that use sewage or animal waste (methane content), hydro-electric plants, and other possibilities.
As far as vehicles go, rechargable batteries are good for almost any vehicle including the green goat switchers. The things is, alot of batteries will be required as it isn’t practicle to wait 24 hours or more to charge up all batteries. Better use batteries in shifts so having 4 sets of batteries with 3 group sets of chargers is a good idea.
Also, fuel cells is another possibility as technology progresses. Ethanol is another possibility as technology progresses to that point.
All that saying, the world doesn’t need to worry about this because it already seems to be solving this problem and slowly converting to “green power” anyways as the cost of such a conversion becomes reasonable.
Yea, you can post if you want. But if you cop an attitude with respected forum members don’t be suprised when we loose respect for you. Do the math buddy.[8D]
As for the fossil fuels it’s the cheapest form of energy right now because of the massive inferastructure already in place(and at capacity as Ed mentioned). But when it becomes cheaper (read gas prices go up enough) to use alternate forms of energy then we will shift to other energy sources.
Where did you come up with the figures of complete exhaustion of all fossil fuels in 10 or 20 years? The known coal and oil reserves will last many times that and further exploration in ongoing. Conservation is in order, though but for reasons related to pollution rather than supply.
Well,
Buddy, I though you were on the way back to Bangor…
Or did you decide to just change screen names again, and do a little more trolling?
Ed
Ben,
Remember the old saying: Necessity is the mother of invention. [;)]
Fossil fuels are indeed “finite” however we are a long way from it. As profit driven as our world wide corporations are, alternatives to petroleum powered vehciles will be available. They’ve already been designed (See the Science Discovery magazines) and will slowly trickle their way in.
Regarding your post.
It has merit, but Ben…You have a tendency of posting in a “Doom and Gloom” [:0][:0][B)] style which is why some of the folks here are teasing you. With topic titles like this, you will be scorched on other forums as well, unless they’re from Green Peace.
As I mentioned on your “Good bye” topic, post your threads with wording that displays calm thinking.
What will the world do? ( sounds like: horrid, doom, panic)
Had it been my topic, I would have named this:
Fossil fuel alternatives for our transportation’s future - What are the realistic expectations.
See what I mean? Doesn’t have to be as long as this, but I think it would have received more serious, thoughtful responses.
So, stick around.
Hope this helps [:)]
Dude, Alstom, look at your posts, and when you joined. Look at my posts and when i joined. Im not saying you can post, im saying, post when there is a reason. Its not like a hate you or anybody else, but just cool your jets.
Alec
OK with the dude crap! I’m not mad at you, but you picking on me. I like to post. You already picked on breakingbenjaman4444, so now are you going to try to get rid of me to? I know I post too much sometimes, but I like to write about trains! You sure have alot from February when some people have less than you from 2003! Why do you love to pick on people? I stopped writing so much, because you’re hurting me and breakingbenjaman4444’s feelings and embarrassing us! Not like you care! Your probably just laughing! It’s frustrating! So quit picking on me and leave me alone!!! Quit being obsessed with how many posts people put up to [:(!]!!!
Sounds like everyone needs a couple of “cold beverages”(beer).
Alstom,
WCTransfer replied to you in a cool, open way. “Dude”, in today’s terms, is often used to let another guy know that “he’s respected and o.k”
Now, Read your reply!
You came out shooting flaming torpedoes at a fellow Forum member trying to make peace with you…then you carried on and on like a brat!. Makes no sense! I’m not dissing you, but this is how it looks.
Yes, you were offended before, but if someone on the forum is trying to bury the hatchet; then accept it! Reply by saying: “O.K” or “We’re cool” and continue to enjoy this forum.
REGARDING COMMENTS LIKE:
“You’re hurting me” and “You’re probably laughing”.
Read those again while pretending it’s someone else’s post. [b]Though it may not be true in your case, it sounds like a post from someone who is very paranoid, immature, or childish. That’s not the image you wi***o convey, is it?
So calm down and move forward. Lots to learn and enjoy on this forum.
Peace out,
I have heard that the our fossil fuel supply, including gasoline, oil, and natural gas, will last for roughly 100 to 125 more years. Now, this does include unrefined fuel as well. It isn’t like we’ll run out of fossil fuels before we have an alternate energy source, although if we did, that might make that process a higher priority. But, I think that we will have something to turn to when we run out. They have experimented with hydrogen powered cars, so maybe a locomotive will be out in a decade or so running of hydrogen. And, railroads could always spend the money to electrify their lines over time, and get their power from a solar field, or nuclear plant.
