What works best to strip paintfrom....

Atlas s-2 made in astruia yellow box. Wondering if 99% alcholol or easy off or something else would be fastest. Thanks i have 3 to do. Mike

If the base material is styrene, Super Clean- available at Walmart and other stores- is a mild biodegradable solution that I have used to soak shells in to remove paint down to bare plastic. I generally use a 24 hr cycle, then use an old firm toothbrush to clean crevices and corners. It comes in a purple spray bottle or larger gallon and 2.5 gallon containers (like antifreeze containers). Wash off the solution with warm dishsoapy water, the rinse with cold clean water. The original soaking solution can be reused several times. For a faster paint removal, I otherwise turn to 91% alcohol, use an overnight cycle, then repeat the same cleaning as above. I do not keep the used alcohol, however. I have also used SuperClean to freshen up the plastic cab window inserts, as well. Once the cleaning is done, I pat dry the shell and then let it air dry. I don’t use a heat dryer! Hope this helps, Cedarwoodron

I stripped paint from the same with 91% alcohol - let it soak - no problem

If the milder 91% alcohol doesn’t do the job, refrain from some of the more agressive stripers especially brake fluid of any other similar. Lysol may work and be safe for the surface. The Rocco plastic is more like ABS and not styrene. I once used Poly S ( tamed brake fluid) and it sure did work only to “craze” the surface.

I’ve had no problems using 91% alcohol on the old Atlas yellow box locos.

Thanks everyone, shells are soaking now. Gonna be a complete tear down so i can paint the sideframes and the frame. Last guy really screwed up an otherwise good b&m paint scheme. Got em cheap may put decoders in them and will paint then either blue or yellow for a farmers co op or a ethenal plant. Then up on ebay they go with a few other latest projects.
