Well, I’m new this forum, but I’d like to give my opinion as both a railfan and a locomotive engineer. My favorite locomotive of all time is the EMD SD40-2. From an engineer’s standpoint, they’re tough, pretty reliable, have excellent throttle response, and they rarely have any wheelslip (unlike a GE Trash 9). From a railfan standpoint, I love the way they sound, be it in run 8 grinding uphill or going down the other side with the dynamics howling. Not only that, I think they look really COOL, too!

The SD40-2.
The Milwaukee Road Box Cab electric set of 4. EF1, EF2, EF3, EF4, Combined Horse power and that of tractor effort beats out the biggest steam engine by 2.5. With close to 15000 horse power and a tractive effort over 300,000 lbs per square inch, its unbeatable. they were the most powerful electric locomotives ever to exsist in America and probably in the world. could pull 200 car trains over the mountains and that gives you an idea of how powerful they were. And not to mention they were NOT a maintance hazard (Sorry to those who like the Steam power.) and usually never broke down. Unbelieveable I say.

MKERD- Milwaukee Road- I have to admit that the SDL39 was a good looking Milwaukee Road unit and I liked it when it was with the Wisconsin Central also.
Good to see other milwaukee guys on. And[#welcome] to the forums.
Outlaw77[C):-)] I like the “TRASH” 9’s that was funny.[(-D]
