I am searching for a couple of items that our out of production. At the time they were made, I was not in N scale, so I don’t exactly know a price for them. So, I am asking, what would I expect to pay?
What should I expect when looking at an N scale Bachmann DD40X or a Life-Like Sykesville Station?
Any info would be helpful.

Be careful about Bachmann’s N scale DD40AX’s…in fact Bachmann has produced at least two versions of the DD40AX in N scale. The Centennial in the white box (I’ve seen unit 6926 but there are probably others) has only one powered truck on only two axles on a single engine and very poor electrical pick-up also…these can be had around $25-35 which is a good price for these craps. However,Bachmann has produced the Spectrum DD40AX (Black box) which are much better engines. All sixteen wheels are powered, each truck having it’s own motor.Electrical pick-up is also through the 16 wheels.I own two of these (units 6906 and 6941) which are both fair runners. Some are occasionnally showing up on Ebay and generally go in the $100-$120 range, which I feel is fair, considering they’re out-of-production models of decent quality.
Though some work is required, the Spectrum version can be fitted with DCC and the result is well worthed the effort.I’ve had 6906 on DCC for a while and am planning on doing the same to 6941 in a near future. So if you wi***o bid on one,ask the seller first if it is indeed a Spectrum DD40AX,unless the model is showed with it’s box.My little advice…for what it’s worthed…
