what would you prefer to see?

what would alot of people like to see on the rails steam or diesel for anything. could be a freight special or passenger or just to take something out of the shop or museum and let it go free

Lots of trains…

And good place(s) to photograph them from.

I agree completely, though I’d even forgo the “lots of trains” requirement if I could have one train in a photogenic locale with some nice, warm sunrise/sunset light.

I’ll take that too. If I can’t have the sunrise or sunset, I’ll take either a nice night shot, with the lighting just right, or, a nice locale with plenty of scenery around…

[:)] Ditto for me.

Baldwins would be nice.
ATSF 2-10-4s, E&LS Sharks or DRS 4-4-1000s here on the E&N would all be fine.

I’m not a photographer, so what I’d prefer to see is:

A complicated control point, with visible signals that can be interpreted.

Plenty of trains to keep the signals and lineups changing–and at least one instance of one train having to wait for another to clear.

Freight trains moving at speeds anywhere from Restricted (for freight-car research purposes) to track speed (for the “Wow!” factor).

A good variety of operations, including some rotary-coupler cars, distributed power, intermodal, and probably some passenger/commuter service.

And what I’d prefer to have is:

Some shade for hot days, and a place to get out of the weather for rain, wind, or snow, while still watching trains.

Places to get something to eat and/or drink, and to relieve oneself.

A safe, legal way to get from one side of the tracks to the other.

And, finally, someone impressionable to watch the trains with me–somebody willing to stick around, be curious, and ready to drink in a lot of answers.

Lots of trains, but also a variety of trains from different railways, and also different engine models.

Trains. Steam would be nice, but I’d really want to see it on the mainline, at speed.

I work with old ALCOs and F’s all the time.

Won’t happen, but I would love to be invited to a trip on an inspection train, business train or special-events train. Something like the Southern Belle.

What would I like to see, uuuummmm.Would’t it be interesting to see a new Design of

our Passenger Train System?I think the public would love a beautiful newly designed

passenger train. Not that the old ones are any good, but we do need a new system

every so?? many years dont we… Dave Br

What I would like to see is the US have a true High Speed rail passenger train network. Minimum speed of 175 MPH average on point to point schedules. To do so, none of the existing rail infrastructure that was laid out by surveyors on horseback in the 19th Century is acceptable. In the Eastern US the Interstates are an near capacity and the air line network is also at near capacity. The only enconomically effective way to increase passenger transportation capacity is high speed rail.

I too would like to see more railfan-friendly places that offer good vantage points for train watching.

Good one! Wish I had thought of it. [:D] - a.s.

Steam in regular revenue service!

i would also like to see steam in revenue service

If you have some old F’s lying around with nothing to do - will you send me one…
