What would you sugest for a radio controle system

I know that this has been answered many times, but i have some questions and a small problem. I want to use batery powered radio controle for my lgb mogul, Bachman mogul. I want to get a Ruby live steam engine, and like a usa train’s GP 38-2.

What system should i go with?

what batteries should i go with?

I have a LGB sound system in my C&S #6 Mogul and i saw in the 3rd battery power article that some one put batteries in the tender with the LGB sound system inside the Mogul’s tender. Page (85)

Also my Next door Nieghbor has an LGB 0-4-0 (like #72312E) Both of us want to drive his engine on my line, but He dosnt want to buy a hole radio controle system to drive his train at christmas, and a couple times in the summer on my line. how could He drive his train on my line?[:o)]

Also i dont have alot of $$$ maybe $200.00 at most. that is both engines.[B)]

what batteries should i use if i want to place them in the tenders?

where can i buy these batteries?

I know that this is alot to ask, but if anyone could answer even One of my Questions, i would be very happy.

Thanks Chompers[8D][8D][8D][:D][:D][:D][^][^][^]

still no answer??? OK.

Im Going to Ridge Road Station on Friday, and i would like to know what i should buy.[:(][|)][#dots]

I have an Aristo trackside T/E. Seem I remember paying around two hundred for the T/E transmitter and two receivers. Another hundred for the P/S. I think if you are going to go with battery power and on-board receivers, you may have to spend closer to $200 per loco. Of course I may be dead wrong but you’d have to purchase one transmitter, two receivers, and at least two sets of batteries plus a charger. I see that totaling up to more than just a couple hundred. Maybe do one loco now and install a switch that will allow you to run it both track or battery. That way you can keep power to the tracks for the loco that isn’t yet converted. As time and funds permit, you could convert the other.

Does anyone have experience with the Basic Train Engineer from Aristo-craft? Can it be used with a battery power supply? Can the receivers be purchase individually from the controller? I’ve seen the cost online for just under $60, and all I need is a simple speed control for one Loco at a time.

Carl

I cannot recommend the systems from RCS enough. Tony is extremely knowledgable, and he will take the time to get you the products you need. Although my locomotives are bad examples from a cost standpoint due to esoteric Lith Polymer batteries, my guess is that a complete onboard battery powered system could be done for less than $150.00 quite easily.

Good luck with your projects!

I love my Locolink. I have it in 6 loco’s. I also have the old basic TE from Aristo. and yes… you can put the reciever in a boxcar with battery power

with the RCS could you fit the batteries in the tender… if there is an old LGB sound system inside??? They showed it done in the battery controle article (in Garden Railways)

Hi Chompers.

The RCS receiver and decoder are pretty small.
They can be fitted in many quite small locos.
I have posted a number of installation pictures for various locos on the net, both at this website and others.

Perhaps specific questions could handled off line?
