I realize in the train market,Just like anything else an item is only worth what one is willing to pay,
I don’t have an updated greensburg guide and I’m wondering what a Lionel 5D test set with the original manual [no box] would be worth?

I don’t have a clue on your item, but just a pot shot: take a look for the item on e-bay. Granted, e-bay prices can go up and down depending on who’s bidding, and how well the item is listed (for example, I’ve seen Lionel engnes listed on e-bay as “Conrail train.” Misspellings can also spell disaster on e-bay) but you can get a ballpark number .
Of course, with any collectible - it’s really worth what someone is willing to fork over for it. And that figure can change with variables like how desperately you need the money… ie: do you have the time to wait for the best offer. And how much do you want to spend inorder to sell it… the more you publicize the item, the better your chances of getting your price.
If you know someone in the TCA, they print a for sale listing. Maybe one has been posted recently. That also may be an avenue to sell your item. Good luck.
