What does everyone have on locomotive rosters? For my HO scale Leelanau County Railway i have 2 athearn SW1000’s, 1 athearn SW1500, 1 athearn GP7 and 1 bachmann spectrum GE 44 tonner. I may add 1 or 2 athearn angular cab CF7s to the Leelanau County Rwy. the adjoining Leelanau Transit Company has a single athearn SW1000.
Too many units to name unfortunately, but here are the roads represented by my locomotives…

My roster is so eclectic, I feel like a collector. But I may “downsize” in the near future, by selling my old blue box athearns and anything else I don’t need…

On the railroad I am currently building I am employing the use of six shays, a class A climax, a shop-built Beyer Garratt and a Mckeen car. It is a freelanced shortline starting in Leadville, CO up to the Town/industrial Area of Apex (fictional town). The layout is set around the 1930’s era but a date is yet to be determined.
After 27 years in the hobby, too many to list individually but generally:
Canadian Pacific:
With two exceptions, all diesels, mostly plastic or 80’s brass, including:
SD40, SD40-2, SW1200RS, RS23, RS18, C424, GP30, GP7, GP9, E8A, FP7, F7B, C liners A and B, RS2, S3, FA1, RDC, SD24 [}:)] .
Others include BC Rail, ATSF (SP merger colours), SP (LA Olympic Games), CN, SI, BC Hydro, hmmm, think I am missing a couple, oh, DRGW and VIA.
Logging, mostly private road but also Hillcrest Lumber and Rayonier.
NKP:
- 2-8-0 x 2
- 2-8-2 x 10
- 2-8-4 x 7
- 4-6-2 x 1
- 4-6-4 x 1
- 44-tonner x 1

- SW-7 x 1
Alton/GM&O:
- 2-6-0 x 1
- 2-8-2 x 2
- S-1 x 1
- RS-1 x 1
C&IM:
- 4-4-0 x 1
- 2-8-2 x 1
- 2-10-2 x 2
TP&W
- 2-8-0 x 1
- 4-8-4 x 1
- F-3 x 2
- RS-2 x 1
OTHER:
- Rock Island 2-8-0 x 1
- ATSF F3 x 2
- Peoria Terminal 0-6-0 x 1
- M&StL RS-1 x 1
- CB&Q 4-4-2 x 1
- PRR 2-8-0 x 2
- plus assorted ancient stuff I’m trying to get rid of, like 20+ Mantua 2-8-2s and 4-6-2s…
Well my layout isn’t even started yeat but heres the planned roster:

This is a new twist on the old, number of locomotives theme:
- Northern Pacific
- Great Northern
- Santa Fe
- Chicago Burlington & Quincy and Colorado Southern
- Denver & Rio Grande Western
- Missouri Pacific and Texas Pacific
- Burlington Northern
- Platte Valley & Western
- Baltimore & Ohio
- Virginia & Truckee
- All others no more than 10 units of any given name (Lehigh Valley, Frisco, RI, UP, SP, Pennsy, NYC, C&O, Southern, CN, Chessie, Bell Telephone, Onterio Northern.)
The HOj JNR Nichigeki-sen runs (* indicates 2 or more:)
Steam:
2-8-2 (D50* and D51 classes)
2-6-2 (C58* class)
2-6-0 (C50 and C56 classes)
2-6-2T (C12 class)
2-6-4T (C11 class) new to roster 3Aug06 (Thank you, Bill Kleinert!)
Diesel-hydraulic:
B-B (DD13* class)
B-C (DE10 class)
B-2-B (DD51* class, unpowered center truck)
1500VDC (catenary) electric:
Bo+Bo (ED14* and ED17 classes)
1-Bo+Bo-1 (ED16* class)
2-Co+Co-2 (EF18 and EF58 classes)
Bo-Bo-Bo (EF60* and EF65 classes)
Bo-Bo-Bo-Bo (EH10 class)
The Tomikawa Tani Tetsudo runs:
0-4-0T (4, of 3 different designs)
0-6-0T (7, of 4 different designs)
2-6-4T (1 each)
0-8-0T (1 each)
2-6-6-2T (1 each)
Also a 4-wheel diesel? of no known ancestry.
Rationalization is scheduled to reduce the 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 populations, and might result in one or more additional 2-X-X-2T (Mallet? DuBosquet?) or X-6-X+X-6-X (Garratt) unit train haulers. An empty coal unit needs three 0-6-0T’s upgrade, while only one of the 0-4-0T’s is heavy enough to be a serious switcher, even handling short cuts of 4-wheel cars.
Un-prototypical, but fun:
4-8-4’s (SP GS-4, NYC 6000, N&W J)
2-Co+Co-2 (PRR GG-1)
Look very improbable in Central Japan in 1964, but they will take my curves and (barely) fit through my tunnels.
Potential kitbashes:
2-8-0’s, candidates for cosmetic conversion to JNR 9600-class, 3 each.
That’s what I can access right now. There may still be a few forgotten kits in still-packed boxes - and no guarantee that I won’t acquire more.

Tell me about your ‘shop-built Beyer Garratt’. What were your donors? Any photos? If your shop was to build another–what would you do differently?
Am planning to ‘out shop’ one myself–but am only in the armchair stages.
Thanks
