At the recent Athearn warehouse sale I got two powered Montana Rail Link units, an SD 40-2 and an SD45 for $30.00.Once at a railfan swap meet, I got a Stewart A-B set of Cotton Belt FTs for $65.00.

A Lionel SD-80MAC partially repainted for $100. The seller also included a set of proper decals to restore the engine to its proper Conrail roadname.

I just got it from Standard Hobby. They are selling BLI loco’s for just about 1/2 price.
That just made my Christmas. I needed some justification to buy another Diesel.

I got a Proto 2000 unit, an E8/9, for $45. It reatails for about $100. People keep telling me that was a good deal, and I belive them! The unit runs like new too.

Hmm, decisions, decisions:

1: A LL GP20 for $30?

2: Atlas Auto rack $20?

3: Athearn HO AC4400CW $30?

4: All the missing detail parts for my GP60 $free?

(I rarely buy stuff at MSRP [;)])

Besides the stuff I get as gifts (eg: free), I think my best deal to date has been brand-new P2K freight car kits for $2 apiece, when Model Expo was getting out of the train end of the hobby.

Most recent would have to be some of the old E R Models locos - have 2 Milwaukee Road FP7s and a NYC Sharknose which runs with a Proto 1k C-Liner A/B pairing in the same roadname. List price of these superb smooth-running locos was £80 each, I got them for around £30 each from www.ehattons.com - they’ve since got another batch in so I think a Baldwin Demonstrator liveried Shark will soon be joining the fleet, as soon as I can afford one!

Most recent would be an Athearn FP45 I picked up for $25.00 on ebay (MSRP $40.00). Another steal was a Rivarossi FEF-3 for $130.00 and a P2K SD7 for $50.00.

I guess either the Lionel Challenger for $225 or my BLI class A for $240.

I’m sure you guys can come up with better ones but I’m still pretty happy with my $29.99 (plus $7.95 S&H) “blowout special” Proto 2000 S1 switcher from Trainworld. (MSRP: $110) It was ordered and in my hands in 5 days. Runs as smooth as glass and looks great! [:D]

Just got a new Roundhouse MDC UP 0-6-0 tank switcher kit, with original price tag of $65.00 for $ 34.00 I think I got a deal, I sorely needed this engine for logging, I’m pretty happy, guess I could have bought a brass model for $450.00.

I’m still excited with my E7 CB&Q from Standard Hobby. Now if I could find some nice pass cars to make up the Denver Zephyr, that would make my Christmas complete.
Yah!!![tup][yeah]

$4.00 P2K MKT covered hopper kit from my LHS

Well, working at a train shop, I get discounts, depending on what the dealer cost was. But the best deal I have ever had, was on a Con-Cor CSX veranda turbine, and I got it for FREE. It was a gift. He couldn’t get it to work, so he gave it to me.

I got a Broadway Limited On30 C-16 steam engine with sound for nothing! (Won it in a photo contest!)

Bob Boudreau

Well, I just bought an Proto 2000 BN SD60 for $51.00 (retail: $110.00). In the past I have gotten a walthers GP15-1 for $19.00 (retail: $40.00), an Athearn AMD103 for $21.00 (retail: $57.00), and others like that. All of that was from eBay.

A great e-bay strike last month netted me a BLI Wabash E7 brand new for drum roll…$98.00

Traded 175 Hotwheel cars for about $3000.00 worth of freight cars, 35 engines, 6 books, & a box of Atlas Flex track. About a month after that I bought 3 large boxes of
train stuff for $65.00 that included 5 steam engines, mess of scenery items, 15 freight cars & sold $2000.00 worth of Lionel catalogs from the 30’s from that box of goodies
& about 3 months later I bought a closed hobby shop of 5 years for $150.00 & went to a train show & sold about a third of it for $325.00. Out of the hobby shop stuff I kept about 50 H.O. scale structures, passenger cars & some scenery stuff.
Most recent free item was a whole collection of Model Railroading magazines from the 40’s to 2002 in excel. cond. & also got 30 #4 switches & 14 #6 switches & a bundle of flex track.
Found most of these deals on my local ISP classified’s.
