What's the most outstanding people thing on your layout ?...

I have a number of people things going on on my layout, but I guess I’d have to say the most outstanding would be the baseball game that a bunch of kids are playing in a vacant lot. One is stealing third base as the pitcher throws a pitch, which is a reenactment of one of my own greatest moments when I was a kid playing little league, and resulted in my team winning the game…

So what do you think about those Astros lately ?. (Go Astros!..)

Tracklayer[:D]

I have a couple sitting on a cliff overlooking the tracks, with the guy’s arm around the girl, but that’s about it. I was thinking about doing something to that effect, though…
Matthew

Not outstanding, but The Kid’s favorite is Elwood Blues standing at the station waiting on Jake to arrive!

The most outstanding thing about any Railroad scene is the railroad… have you ever worked out how much stuff goes into 1mile of track? the parts in a loco?
and it all started from a world with no railroads!

Well, the eny-catcher for me isd my 0-8-0. Its really not much of an eye catcher, but its my only steam loco, and since the move, my layout has had relativley no scenery.

On the Astros note, not sure if i’ll root for them, but I used to live in Houston (My backyard and Roger Clemens backyard actually bordered each other, and his son and I were on the same little league team) but, then again, at heart i’m really a Bostonian, if i’m going to associate my self with any city, and Roger Clemens left us for the Yanks

Rotor, Thats sweet!

The only thing thats missing, in my mind… would be the the girlfriend sneaking up behind that phonebooth, with her machine gun, or somthing!

Here’s one scene on my modules:

“But officer, the pole jumped right out in front of me!”

Bob Boudreau

I really enjoy the non-railroad touches that, to me, give life to a layout. Mine include: a scratch-built replica of the actual Civil War memorial in one of the towns; an outdoor cafe scene with a brass band; a market scene with farmers’ and crafts stalls; a fishing scene; a hunting scene; a moonshine still. Also numerous HO figures in realistic poses. I’m currently working on a small parade scene.

I’m of two minds about the Woodland Scenics figure sets. On the one hand, many of them are neat little scenes; on the other hand, unlike most of my existing scenes, they will be duplicated on hundreds if not thousands of other layouts.

Awesome idea, Dian! Now I have to find an HO scale Carrie Fisher and grenade launcher! [;)]

As usual, Bob B just blew me away with his scene! Awesome scene, with a touch of humor!

Probably my best was below in my signature, but it was staged. that’s right, it never really happened.

My favorite is not on the track per se, rather it is on the train. Harry Potter getting a lesson from Ol’ Brakie. that was back when my daughter was interested in the layout because of Harry Potter and the thought of driving trains to Hogwarts.

A couple of scenes. First my tiny municipal airport with a few planes approaching(via a clear hanging nylon thread) the runway. Also have a ceiling mounted fan blowing them in.
Second. A pair on tiny connected boating/fishing ponds alive with fishermen, boats, ducks, swimers.

On my layout the most eye catching thing besides the trains is a FedEx Benz sprinter van duking it out with a big brown truck on the four lane highway that runs adjacent to the main line. I also have a Volkswagen T3 van that I’m going to paint in all phsycadelic colors…

I have a similiar idea in mind , except mine involves the kids playing baseball, and a nearby car with it’s headlights and tailights flashing due to having it’s winsheild broken by a ball and the alarm going off[8D]

R is that the same $3 station I have
I just paid $12 and I love it
just need 20 people to be on it looking for my next train to stop there

Well, I haven’t really populated my layout yet, except for some illegal October fishing by a couple of kids up on the Middle Yuba River (but hey, it’s 1943 or so and there’s meat rationing). I do have one scene near Sierra City, though:

Officer Mezger has just pulled the Mayor’s son over for speeding near Ma’s Place, the local–er–“Establishment” just outside of town. That’s Ma leaning on the porch, she’s sent the girls inside. No need to embarrass the kid further, right?
Tom

I dunno, Bud…mine is an ancient German station that I have had on my layout since the early 60’s! I’ve never seen another like it. It has a yellow tinted transparent roof on it. I’ll try to remember to take my cmaera home so I can take a pic of it.

Here’s a “people” scene from my old layout (~6 years ago):

Hey Ken,

How or what did you light the vessel with? Great shot though, isn’t that a walthers EAF?

Patrick

Thanx Patrick! You’re part-way correct, the building [2 of them actually] and interior deckwork came from the Walthers EAF kit. The furnace vessel and the charging ladle are made of self-hardening clay, to withstand above-average heat. Inside the furnace vessel is a 40-watt light bulb, with yellow fiberglas insulation batting to give the ‘flame’ effect.

I did a clinic on this setup during the 2000 RRISIG meet in Baltimore.
