What's the most popular period to model ?...

1900 1910 thats it

I just went and blew out your candle on my alter of highly respected modelers! Not like steam??? Oh the pain! (just kidding) [;)]

Personally I love those old 1800’s steamers, but model the 1920’s. Still some old locos to run and the USRA locos to pull those increasingly long trains.

I think people generally go for transition eras, because there’s so much flexibility in rolling stock: model the late 1940s and you can run any modern steam engine and a lot of diesels; model the Teens (as I do) and that 2-10-2 on its way out of the yard with a coal drag can pass a mixed train headed by a 4-4-0 with a wooden pilot.

There’s a definite challenge to modeling a certain era; it forces you to discipline your spending, focus your research, and work conscientiously at prototype emulation. You see this a lot in Colorado-themed modeling; it seems like there are dozens of people modeling 1941, perhaps because that was the year both the Grande and the RGS introduced their penultimate steam-era logos, and because there is a wealth of info on it.

I model Penn Central in the mid 70s

I Model 1995-present, so I checked the firts box!!!

Transition era but if I could afford it I would only have steam.

Transition era is by far the most popular, in my opinion. I never cared about era, I run anything with anything. But, I do like to have defined locations.
