For me, finding a name for my layout is tricky, because I’m modeling parts of 4 different real railroads. Maybe something like the Twin City Central, or the Twin Cities Division, but those don’t quite sound right. The slogan I have; “Route of the Amtrak Empire Builder”. That really says it all.
Here’s an irreverent listing of nicknames of real railroads that may or may not inspire your quest to name your pike. Frankly, naming my pike is the least of my worries.
Heres my pike…
It is called, “my bedroom”[(-D]
I am a floor runner until I get enough room to build an organized layouy.[:D]
The name of my pike, which is now in the building stage, benchwork that is,
will be “The M & P Railroad” The “M” for my wife Marlene, one terminal will be “Marlsburg”, the “P” for me, Phillip, the other terminal to be “Phillipsville”.
As I model the coal mining region of southwestern Virginia I simply call my railroad the “Appalachian Division”. I run trains from the N & W, Clinchfield, Southern, and the C & O.
My layout is the KR&NP–the Kneading, Repaire, and New Partes.
Here are some of my mottos:
“Connecting Kneading with some other places, in a little while.”
“Route of the heavyweighters”
“The grammatically and meckanically challenged lien”
“If it absolutely must get there overnight, then we might just start a new freight for you.”
“The first railroad with dispatching software designed by Archimedes and brakes by Nostradamus”
“Here at KR&NP we value tradition—that’s why we haven’t bought new equipment in 147 years.”
“We always welcome excursioning locomotives—after all, we have a nine stall roundhouse and four locomotives.”
“Our equipment isn’t made by Pullman per se, but in a little bit you might have to get out and pull, man.”
See you around the forums,
Daniel
