What's the opposite of Dull-Coat?

Never a dull moment, huh? I’ve got some automobiles I’d like to change the colors on, and a lot of cheap flat acrylics. Rather than buy new paints just for a few brushloads, can I apply some kind of over-coat to shine them up?

Any clear Gloss will to. Accupaint and PolyScale both make a water based Gloss. Floquil makes a “Crystal-Coat” and also a “Glaze”, altho these are solvent based.

Mister Beasley,

You’ll hate the name of the product that opposed to DullCote’s dull finish, gives a gloss finish … (drum roll)… GlossCote.

You may also want to try Future (the floor stuff). The plastic model guys have used it for years to give models a glossy finish. I’ve used it on some things with a pretty good result. Fine Scale Modeler had an article about the use of Future about a year ago and I was blown away. Apparently the plastic model guys use it to attached clear styrene parts and if there are scratches in the clear plastic Future will fill the scratches.

Of course the big advantage of Future is how you get the stuff - slip it into the grocery cart so the grocery, not the hobby budget pays for it!!

I’ve used Future on various car models with good results. The only problem I can see, is that it sometimes takes multiple coats for a good shine. Oh, and it can run too. Another thing to consider, is that it does yellow over time. It’s not a problem on dark-colored items, but looks downright awful on lighter ones.

Clear gloss fingure nail polish works well in some settings.

Interesting point. Looking back I realize that I’ve only used Future on darker colors. I agree that running is a problem. While I’ve read that Future can be airbrushed, I haven’t tried it yet. I can say, though, that it does a great job on clear plastic.

Time to raid the wife’s makeup drawer! What a great idea - she purchases MRR supplies thus preserving my hobby budget! Wish me luck guys - getting caught could have an ugly ending.

Opposite of dull-coat…interesting-coat???[C):-)]

Could it also be Sharp-Coat?

OK, now it’s getting TOO silly. (No, that was from Monty Python in th 70’s, Graham Chapman as a British military officer. But, it’s OK because my real name is Bruce.)

Thanks for all the ideas. Time to raid the ladies’ room for some nail polish. I love the smell of acetone in the morning…
