I’m a Frisco fan and also am fond of Intermountain products. I’d been waiting for Intermountain to release their 5277 boxcar decorated for Frisco. Being the highly impatient person that I am I e-mailed Intermountain and asked when this model would be released. I received an e-mail from Intermountain saying that there had not been enough orders for that particular model and it would not be produced. This morning I’m surfing the net and find one listed for sale by a dealer. I’m not talking about pre order or reservations but rather one in stock. What the heck is up with that? I’m very pleasantly surprised to see the item for sale, but a little irritated at the misinformation I got from Intermountain. Does Intermountain provide misinformation intentionally or was this just a goof on their part?
Most likely they produced a first run which is sold out at their warehouse and thought you were asking about a second run being produced. They have no way to know what or were their products are after they sell them to their dealers - nor do they care.
I have lots of Intermountain, its all great stuff - and all my dealings direct with them have been great as well.
I wasn’t aware that IMRC had an earlier run of this car. The dealer has a photo listed that doesn’t appear to be the same one IMRC has on their website. The car is shown in it’s package and appears to be on a shelf or table. The car is shown in an IMRC box that says it’s part of the Pinnacle series. Were the earlier run also part of the Pinnacle series? Probably just have my hopes up too high.
Another modeler advised me to check the item numbers on the box. The car in question is IMRC item #47505-09. IMRC’s website listed the proposed run as being items number 13 through 18. Me being the rocket scientist that I am I didn’t realize there had been an earlier run. Looks like this car is part of it. Color me embarrassed. [#oops]
First, this car is way out of my era, so I have not followed it, but you got me curious.
What scale?
Who is this dealer?
Intermountain has them listed in both HO and N scale as having been made, but as I said, likely they will not be re-run any time soon.
I do buy a fair amount of Frisco because it is a major interchange connection for my freelanced ATLANTIC CENTRAL, that’s why your question caught my interest.
Before last Christmas many of you will recall that Atlas was producing 2, 33,000 gal tank cars. One for Superior Propane which I ordered and received and one lettered for British American Petroleum, which I would now like to get my hands on to give it to a friend of mine whose Dad had been a B/A rep and has quite a collection of B/A items.
However, I do have the two numbers, right off the box ends, but they do not show up in any of the catalogues. Many retailers both north and south of the Border have told me that these cars do not exist and I’m telling them that they do as I have one and a picture of the other.
So strange things do happen, and for what reason no one seems to have an answer.
You think somewhere it would say - Limited production run
discontinued on such and such a date.
But just to act as if it never had been made is quite strange to say the least.
There is a simple answer to your question about the B/A and Superior propane cars. They were a special run produced by Atlas for Canadian Hobbycraft. The stock numbers on the end of the box are Canadian Hobbycraft’s stock numbers - not Atlas. These were only available to dealers who dealt with Canadian Hobbycraft. They ran these paint schemes in both HO and N and a number of vendors have had them for sale at train shows in the Toronto area in the past few months. I checked George’s trains website and they list some on their site… I know Panther Hobbies in Mississauga had lots of N scale ones recently and I believe still had some HO B/A cars earlier this year.
