I was wondering if any one else has not received their April issue of RMC? I had e-mailed Carstens last week and still no response from them. I usually get it a few days after MR but not this time. It looks like MRs may issue will be here before Aprils RMC.
I e-mailed the subscription department on Monday, the 6th - Got my April issue today. No indication of what the problem is/was. First thought was that someone swiped it from the mailbox but it looks like others were missing their April issue also. Already have the May MR and would normally be expecting the May RMC any time now. Dunno! [?]
As of today, have not received mine. Should be here this week, however.
While on the subject of RMC, I have subscribed to them since the '70s (MR since 12/55), and find the mag either “feast or famine”. Of course they are usually about east coast RR (not my main interest), and the feature articles are often quite large and historically based. Some of those have been absolutely outstanding, others not so much. They also spend a lot of paper covering model railroading equipment in the “good old days”, and sometimes I think the same articles are rehashed every other year or so.
BUT, all that being said, I’ve been a subscriber since the '70s and don’t intend to stop…
Indeed, the recent delay was a matter of problems between RMC and their printer (located, I believe, in the upper mid west). Hopefully, this difficulty will prove only a single such instance and the publication’s arrival date return to normal with the May issue.
Well, here is the gist of RMC’s explanation, as of yesterday, for the long delay in the arrival of the April issue (which is showing up in LHS right now, by the way). They indicate that their publisher is now accepting copy only via some particular electronic format over the Internet that apparently no one in their offices is familiar with and that they are now in a race to educate themselves in it. They suggest that issues of RMC between now and perhaps September may be subject to at least some delays until they can become thoroughly familiar with this new electronic format. They ask readers for patients and understanding while things get straightened out.
Far from being any sort of computer geek myself, I can really appreciate what they must be going through!
OK - I can live with delays. When my copy didn’t show, I began to have visions of another company going under due to our failing economy. I’ve been an avid reader of both MR and RMC for some time and would hate to lose either one. [^]
Got mine today! Actually, the mailgal drove by the house and then came back later with it.
My comments previously on RMC were not bashing the mag, just reflecting my observations and interests. And while MR is easily my favorite model railroading mag, RMC is second!!
