http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=165698 What’s wrong with the windows and why they are not book ending the SD.
Nothing’s wrong with the windows, they’re just reflecting the light differently than the SD. They do have a slight angle to them.
As for their position in the consist, that’s the way they were set up!
Thanks
I remember hearing something to the likes that since so many people crowd the tracks when the Santa Train comes to town, they wanted the crew to have a better view of the area. Better view = standard cab
BTW, nice shot!!!
I think that even with the different angle of the glass, they shouldn’t be reflecting that color. Looks to me like they might’ve put cardboard behind them.
It could also be the F40’s heated windshield. The coating tends to reflect that color light.

Don’t forget that unlike hood units, the F40s windshields are not at a near perfect 90 degree vertical angle. They’re tilted back very slightly from the top and also protrude forward at the center post.
As, as mentioned above, the coating will give off a “purple-ish” hue in the sun.
To my untrained eye they looked like htey had cardboard or craft paper taped over their windshields, and I even thought I saw tape around the edges of what looked like paper.
Yeah, that’s just the tinted covering on them reflecting. They did the same thing in Amtrak paint.
How many F40s does CSX have?!
They have Four, numbers 9992, 9993, 9998 & 9999
KBC, CSX has the one pair of “Executive/Business train” units that they obtained from Amtrak back in the 90s. They replaced the ex-Clinchfield F units that were performing the business train duties.
( I wonder what’s become of those Clinchfield Fs)
I have seen pictures (see below) showing a CSX executive train with FOUR of the CSX painted F40 units, how many do they really have at this point in time?
Looks like they stuck cardboard under the windshield wipers.
A number of years ago,I was riding a train behind F40s. The rear unit was facing the train, and it looked to me like the windows were covered over with wood.At the next long stop I walked up to the units.windows were glass. It had been the way the sun was reflecting off the glass.
