After yesterday’s poll of “What’s the most popular steam loco in the US”. I thought I’d try it this way to see what your own personal favorite is. Sorry if I’ve left anyone’s out, but that’s why I included the “other” choice ([:D]).
4-8-4. What can compare to a late model Northern digging in and then highballing on the varnish? Of course my judgement is clouded by my love of the N&W J Class locos. To my mind, and eye, nothing finer ever ran in steam.
2-8-4 Berkshire (of course) then the 2-10-4, 2-10-2, I give up! It depends on the mood I’m in, which way the wind is blowing, how the sun, moon and stars line up. I like steam in any form.
Dang it Tracklayer, you made me think about this for a minute beofre voting. I guess 2-8-0 is my favorite simply because they were such “drag engines” for their size.
The 2-10-2. My favorites, the Grande F-81s, went to steam loco heaven long years before I was born, but they were nice - a Brooks product (it was Alco when they were outshopped), and I’m always partial to Dunkirk work.
