What's your favorite steam loco wheel arrangement ?...

After yesterday’s poll of “What’s the most popular steam loco in the US”. I thought I’d try it this way to see what your own personal favorite is. Sorry if I’ve left anyone’s out, but that’s why I included the “other” choice ([:D]).

Kinda partial to Decapods, myself! I’ve always liked them and the first time I saw Strasburg #90 I was sold!

After that I’d say the 4-8-4’s are next in line…especially the Reading T-1’s.

4-8-4. What can compare to a late model Northern digging in and then highballing on the varnish? Of course my judgement is clouded by my love of the N&W J Class locos. To my mind, and eye, nothing finer ever ran in steam.

I’ll have to go with the decapod’s too. That long wheelbase is pretty cool, and lot’s of things going round and round![:P]

2-8-4 Berkshire (of course) then the 2-10-4, 2-10-2, I give up! It depends on the mood I’m in, which way the wind is blowing, how the sun, moon and stars line up. I like steam in any form.

I second the 2-8-4 vote. To me the Berks were about the most balanced powerful looking non articulated steam locomotives ever made.

Dang it Tracklayer, you made me think about this for a minute beofre voting. I guess 2-8-0 is my favorite simply because they were such “drag engines” for their size.

Non-articulated: Toss-up between 2-10-2 and 4-8-2
Articulated: 3-way Tie between 2-8-8-4, 4-8-8-2 and 4-6-6-4.

Man, they seem like just the right locos to me for any service!

I’m partial to the 2-8-4 Berkshire, 4-8-4 Northern and 4-8-8-4 Big Boy myself.

My personal favorite is the Pennsylvania T-1 4-4-4-4 Duplex.[:D] I want to get one from Bowser sometime.[:D][:D][:D]

I kinda like the 2-4-0 and the 2-6-2 since it’s the only one I ever rid on.

2-6-0 is cool too. Like the pards above said. I’m pretty partial to all of them.

The 2-10-2. My favorites, the Grande F-81s, went to steam loco heaven long years before I was born, but they were nice - a Brooks product (it was Alco when they were outshopped), and I’m always partial to Dunkirk work.
