With the new year approaching and my model railroad project sitting at stalemete of late (busy holiday season, year-end things to get done, etc.). I thought that it would be a good time to resolve to set some goals for the up-and-coming year so as to get my model railroad, the Toledo Erie Central (TEC) a bit further towards completion.
Specifically, I resolve to make the TEC more “finished” by completing the structures, both rail-served and background. Secondly, I want to get a really good start on the scenery, perhaps even finish most of it as this is only 14 feet by 1 1/2 feet of real estate. Third, I want to get the wiring all neat and up under the benchwork and get my facia board on.
that’s my Model RR resolution for 2012, What’s yours?
To get back to work and actually make some progress again. Yesterday I worked on painting some track for a little while - first actual work I’ve done on the layout in months. I need to finish the line out of staging and add one more passing siding and track will be complete. And I need some stripign tape so I can lay out trrack diagrams and get my switch controllers hooked up, and I’ll be able to actually operate rather than just run trains around.
I also want to go through all my paper copies of MR and give them away or donate them, the ones that are in decent shape, since I now have the DVD collection. I can repurpose the shelves to hold all my empty rolling stock boxes, nd use the magazine cases to hold 2010 and 2011 MRs and other magazines.
Resolution or the power to get it done is an afull big idem.I hope to start on the layout (maybe with the help of my grandson’s) again and retrack the steps that I left undone. Like laying track to run trains and figure out yards and town layout desizn.Maybe realize I started with to big a layout for our skills.
I resolve to spend a lot more money in 2012 on MR stuff than I did in 2011 because I need to do it and want to do it with the sole purpose of not leaving a dime behind when I pass on to that marvelous little narrow gauge road in the hereafter.
Stop grousing about my son living in the designated “train room” and get to work on the available space to make something that I can build a reasonable layout on. That’s enough to resolve, anything else will be gravey.
FINISH THE #$%!& SCENERY, LOL! Okay, at least the ‘backside’ of the Sierra Buttes. I’m tired of all that pink and white foam back there, looks like a strawberry Sundae.
Then smooth out the ‘coffee-grinder’ noise on a couple of my old brass articulateds. And get a really decent mini-cam that I can download on the computer without having to take a course in Hollywood film production methods.
That ought to keep me off the streets for a while.[:P]
This year I am going to resolve to get my facia up, and have all tracks ballasted and the scenery at least started. Before I start the scenery I need to finish a few buildings first.
Went downstairs today and started sorting through the menagerie of tools, cars, car kits, started projects, and just plain junk that’s stacked up in about four different places. Cleared off two whole shelves just by condensing and organizing a little.
Set aside a Bar Mills kit I started who-knows-when and went through the parts, quickly discovering that I have everything but the four main walls. I guess the first task will be to find them. Grrr.
On the plus side, I found several exacto knives to compliment the replacement one I just bought, several packs of metal wheelsets, two 10 packs of Kadee #5, and two NCE decoders. So it’s hardly been a waste of time.
Build a new workbench similar to Jack’s Workbench in the 72 MR
Finish the staging yard
Build the feed store from scratch
Stage a coup and capture one more wall to build the junction
If figure if I can create enough noise and confusion with #1, while working on #2, the great ruler of all things domestic might not notice #4 until it’s too late.
No resolutions for me,but I am setting some goals for 2012.The first one is to get the mainline finished on my N scale layout. The second one is to at least start on a home based Z scale layout ( I already have a Z layout that I take to shows.
