Whats your opinion of Tower 55 models?

Hey Everyone
I was looking these models too, pretty nice and cheaper than brass models.
Now If anyone has these engines already I would love to hear their thoughts?
Secondly who is going to purchase these engines, I haven’t heard much talk about these models with any of my local modellers. And lastly is this new style of projects going to stick, ie. new wave modelling?

Thanks Everyone
Cheers

I am waiting until they release the turbine to make any purchases.

Don’t know, Don’t have on but I sure would like a couple of them. I have to save my money: A LOT!

The only part about them is the price, seems to far out of line. I would love to have an EVO, yes I can afford it, but I still feel the price is too high.

What do you think the price should be?

I havent ran one but I like the looks of them but to problem is is that they arent making any engines that I want. i have held one though.

I haven’t seen one run yet, but my initial impression from the one I saw at a dealers was that they’re overpriced. The detail is good, but not any better than the latest Genesis or Atlas models. I don’t like the separate wire railings and stanchions, but that’s just my personal preference. I have read some posts on here from owners complaining about paint being chipped off the railings.

The big question is - how long will it be before the same engines are released by another manufacturer at less cost? I’m thinking of Genesis, Atlas or even Kato. It’s been a while since they released anything.

I’m going to sit this one out. I could buy one if I wanted, but I’d rather hold off and see what’s coming from some other manufacturers.

I myself am also anxious to see how the “Classic Concept Series” locomotives looks. Is anybody here even interested in something like that? I personally have no interest in purchasing one (not my era), but they should be pretty neat nonetheless.

I haven’t tried one, since I can’t afford one, but I hear they’re very good.[:D] The high price may come from the OMI drive, which seems to be rediculously over-priced. I was on the OMI website a year or two ago, and they were selling Rail Power SD90s on OMI drives with UP paint…FOR $600!!! Who in their right mind would pay $600 for a $40 shell with a nice drive system!?[:O]

They’re really just like anything other higher-quality plastic diesel on the market today. Detail is about on par With Genesis, P2K and Atlas. The thing about them though is that they’re making locomotives no-one else as made. I’d love a CSX SD70ACe when they come out, but nearly $250 for a non sound plastic diesel? Get real…

I recently ordered a Tower 55 BNSF ES44-DC with “analog” sound. It was terrible. The engine started moving BEFORE any audible sound from the “prime mover” could be heard. I am a locomotive engineer and I never ran an engine where the prime mover increased in RPMs AFTER the engine began moving! The horn and bell are not accesible in DC mode; another major drawback. The lighting in the number boards and ditch lights were hardly visible. I rejected the model and ordered a non sound- equipped version. The engine itself is gorgeous! Graphics nice and sharp and brass handrails instead of bendable plastic.
According to Tower 55, they are working on a remedy for this.
Personally, I feel the QSI sound systems in P2K, Atlas and BLI models is superior.
Hopefully, Tower 55 will be able to correct this issue.

4884bigboy why dont you just buy the Overland Brass CSX SD70ACe unit when they arrive for only $800? That is a better deal in my opinion. [;)]
