Wheel flanges...

Does anybody know if Lionel will be using the same type of wheels, with the over sized flanges, that they previously used on their SD70ACe model, for their new Wabash FM Train master (item no. 6-28307).

I 'm considering canceling my order if the over sized flanges are going to be used. I have 2 of Lionels SD 70ACe’s and I don’t like how they get jolted in my O-72 fastrack switches.

Also, when is this locomotive due?

Thanks, Rick

This question was address by MIKE REAGAN from Lionel at the Legacy users meeting at YORK last week. Here is MIKEs answer.

Wheel flange problem

Mike says future engines have been tested successfully with smaller flange wheels. Time will tell when the smaller flange wheels show up on new engines.

Hope this helps?

Thanks, hopefully they’ll be on the train master.

My bet is that they put thme on their high end engines first.

“Tested successfully”? This ain’t rocket science. At some point, Lionel started putting larger wheel flanges on their engines which caused the engines to bounce through switches. Why is testing necessary to return to wheel flange sizes that have worked successfully for years?
