The crew should have been comended for their SUPERB job of following all the rules and stopping the train. No sarcasm noted folks.

They did everything in compliance with RR policy and rules. They can’t be blamed for stoping in just the right place for a disaster for happening. They were just doing that they were told.
This is just a guess, but maybe it was lucky that the train did stop on the bridge. It looks like the fire was contained to just the bridge. Looking at the pictures, the grass looks very dry and perhaps if the train had stopped somewhere else, then the fire could have been much worse.
