The Chicago and North Western ordered the first Dash 9-44CWs in November 1993 and they started arriving in December. The C&NW had 130 units (8601-8730) by May of 1994. Santa Fe was the second customer with 100 units (600-699). Southern Pacific was next with 101 (8100-8200) and Union Pacific was the forth customer with 40 (9700-9739) for a total of 371 built in the first 12 months.

thanks for the replys and when did NS, CSX, Conrail, And CN get theres and there differnt paint schemes?

Conrail never owned Dash-9’s. They did own Dash-8’s in standard and ‘widecab’ versions. NS took delivery of its first Dash-9 on Jan 14, 1995. NS’ first order for Dash-9’s was for an order of 125 in Standard Cab configuration, delivered between Jan and March of 1995. NS’ first Widenose Dash-9 was delivered in Jan of 1996, numbered 8889 and those deliveries eventually numbered roughly 1100 units. NS bought all their Dash-9’s in DC and rated them at 4,000 HP, rather than the typical 4400. There was a key which could be inserted to dial in the extra 400 HP if absolutely necessary.
