SW-8/900s? I just bought a Proto on an impulse and I’m not sure running it in my time period Early 50s, will be correct.
Google is your friend

and other sites suggest SW-8 production began in 1950, some disagreement about whether it ended in 53 or 54
According to Yard Limit, the EMD SW8s were built from '50-'54 and the SW900s, '54-'65.

Every SW8 is listed below and the dates are 1950 to 1954.
I guess you got the answer to your question; I wish someone would bring out a SW8/SW900 in N Scale; I’m thinking about attempting a conversion of one of Kato’s new NW2s.
Hi guys,
Thanks for the info, looks like it falls within my time frame even if it’s not the road name I’m modeling [:)]. So far I have 5 Locos, none of which have the same roadname [:D]. All in due time. I can always redecorate, right?
Here are some shots of the little guy.
Thanks again
J.P.
EMD started production of the SW8 in September of 1950 and stopped in January of 1954 and the SW900 was started in January of 1954 and stopped in November of 1965.
371 SW8’s were built and 357 SW900’s were built.
I thought LL did…

R.T.: Proto 2000 N scale SW8’s at Walther’s. Take your pick.
That’s a sweet one, J.P. [tup] I love the earlier diesels.

This table only covers SW8s that were built in the US. SW8s were built in Canada too.

Thanks Tom, me too I started out with a strong interest in Steam but am gravitating to the transitions period with a steam/diesel mix. Now I need some F7s, RS-2s another RS-3 and aconsistant roadname or two (that’ll happen when I get my own house and can set up a permanent layout though) and I’ll be all set.
