Of course, this partially is dependent on your work schedule (or if you’re retired).
Here in Arizona, it depends on the time of year and weather more than anything else for me. I’m retired, so I don’t have to worry about work interfering with anything, but sunburn must definitely be considered. Lacking shade, I usually have to wait until near sundown.
No schedule at all really.Just when I feel like it.Sometimes a couple of months will pass before I run them again.Keeps it fresh and fun.No matter how much you like things, you can have too much of a good thing ,as the saying goes.

Judging from the responses so far, it appears I need to go ahead and retire. Too bad I can’t afford to. [:-^]
my garden is still in planing ,but when i can thow some track togetter . can’t what to have a rail layout to run.
It seems almost implied that this question is for outdoor modelers.
As one who has only ever had indoor trains, you would think that I would be running them all the time, but that unfortunately is not the case. Indoors I don’t have the weather and seasonal issues to deal with, but that doesn’t necessarily make it any easier.
The truth is I haven’t run a train in over 10 years, but prior to that I spent over a year where my trains ran 11 hours a day, 7 days a week. That’s no picnic either, and almost took the fun out of it for me.
Talk about the going from the ridiculous to the sublime!!! I am in search of a HAPPY MEDIUM!!![swg]
During open houses and when someone visits is when I run trains most often. Other times I am working on the layout or doing non train things.
OLD DAD
We run our trains every chance we get whatever the season.

I live in Western PA so when it quits raining we will run again. This is a new project
Bstarr, Where abouts in western PA do you reside? All of my family come from southwestern PA. My Garden RR when it gets started will be prototyped after the Waynesburg& Washington RR in South western PA.
And Most of All[#welcome]
I run trains after tea in the warm sun and after getting home from a stressfull day at work nothing beats it
Only when I’m there! I’ve added motion detection so the trains only run when anyone is near the garden. I like the idea they don’t wear themselves out when your not there and I really like the nice surprise of a train running anytime you pass by. (It’s also not much of a surpise when you have to go over and turn them on first then have to turn them off so you don’t wear them out)

I run my trains out and back at the moment because the loop isn’t complete, so it’s a hands on thing. Every couple of weeks would be a good average but I do put a couple of cars out a few nights a week for something ‘railway’ to look at when I’m sat out or in the back lounge.

Kim
