When does your MR hit your mailbox.

I’m curious to know when others on this site receive their magazines in the mailbox. As of today 8-3-13 I have not received mine. I live in the Chicago area so it’s not like I’m in the middle of nowhere. It seems to me I used to get it either in the last couple of days of the previous month or the first of the month at the latest. In the last year or so it seems I don’t see it until 3 to 5 days into the month. Does anyone know when MR ships the mags and/ or how long USPS has to get it to my mailbox. I think the issue may be with my local post office, for some reason they don’t try to get it to my mailbox until they have to. Am I just being whiney or is this unusual or has something changed…

it is usually about the first of the month for the prior month of what the cover says. But I have learned that a few weeks can go by and eventually it arrives. They do not plop the entire press run on the USPS all on the same day.

Some of us remember when the arrival date was far closer to the date on the cover. The annual “April Fool’s Day” prank made a lot more sense when it arrived closer to April 1. It is hard to be in an April Fool’s Day frame of mind in February …

That’s about the same for me as well.

I don’t know that it’s official policy, but it does seem like less non-first class mail is delivered on Fridays and Saturdays.

Some subs come earlier, some come later.

I’m in Chicago’s western 'burbs and I usually get MR and Trains the 27th-29th of the month, every once in a while later or separately. Last MR came Monday.

Maybe,Your Mailman is not finished reading it yet…True story, three year’s ago my mailman used be quite excited when he delivered my mag and asked all kinds of questions about it…For Christmas,I got him a gift sub…He never stops thanking me,for getting him involved…I live in south west burbs of Chgo…and get mine around the 27th…

Cheers,

Frank

I live in the NYC area. I usually get my Trains and MRR on the same day. Usually three days before the end of the month or up to three days into the following month. I believe the mags are shipped in bulk and it just depends on when the local post office gets around to sorting them out.

Ditto.

Same here.

Ask your local post office about the late delivery. Something is wrong. The rest of us suburbanites around Chicago are receiving ours before the first of the month.

When I lived in New Lenox people in Australia were gettting the PRR historical society publication before me. If it comes through Chicago you are in trouble. Worst on time record and work force in the nation.

I live in NC and I got the September issue on July 25. I almost always receive the next issue approximately 7 to 10 days after the MRR staff sends out their issue preview email. I almost always have the issue in hand 5 weeks before that actual month (aka July 25 have September issue in possession).

NDBPRR,

With all due respect,Living in and around,Chicago,70 years of my life,I will say Your last sentence in your reply, wasn’t really a nice thing to say!!

Cheers,

Frank

I’m with Frank on this one.

Not true, not nice.

Well, they do not carry MR into the post office and mail them all at once.

They are trucked to one of several post offices around the country and are entered into the mail locally.
Thus you must ask yourself what these truck drivers were doing on their way to New Jersey or wherever.

In theory, me thinks that they would ship on say Wednesday in order to reach the regional post offices on Monday morning. Perhaps MR will be happy to elaborate on how this works, and where exactly their printing press is. Who knows, maybe we want to model this operation.

It is also likely that these truckers who deliver periodicals fo the regional postal centers are carrying many different publications, and may have to wait for a slow printer somewhere along the line.

Well here is a true story. My neighbor and I were talking when the mailman handed him his mail. He looked at one piece and said, “this isn’t mine. Its not my name or street.” The mailman said,“well I got the number right” and handed it back and walked off. I

Whenever it gets there.

The day after the truck delivers the 89xxx copies to the Las Vegas mail distribution center.

Since I don’t check my (inside the Post Office) mailbox daily, and don’t schedule my life around magazine deliveries, I don’t let it concern me.

Mine appears to come in a bi model distribution over a three week period centered around the first of the month prior to the cover date. Or in other words, something like the 23rd or so, or the 8th of the next month. So consistent it makes me think the printing plant is alternating which magazines go out first in each publication cycle.

Normally, it gets to me about the 1st of the month 30 days ahead of the month it is printed for.

Mine usually arrives just before of just after the first of the month. It varies month to month.
