When I cast my ballot for the RS3
What a beautiful photo!
I knew you were an RS3 fan when my friend & I met you aboard Southern’s Asheville-Salisbury train in the summer of 1974. Coming into Marion,NC, we shared a “dutch door” together with you, taking photos along the way. At Marion, being a depot fan, I was disappointed that my photos of the Marion depot were blocked, in part, by a Southern switcher. But you yelled out “Hot dog!” because the switcher was a Southern RS3!

My favorite road engine: RS3’s in the '50s in Philadelphia on the Reading RR. In the switcher department, it was Baldwin all the way!
In this case, I can agree with Mr. Ingles. I am surprised he didn’t head north to the Alco mecca of the Detroit & Mackinac, as his friend did. Here in Kalamazoo in the '60s, I enjoyed the Pennsylvania’s 4040-series RS-2 coming down from Grand Rapids on a way freight as GR-10, usually going as far as Vicksburg, and then returning as GR-9 almost on a daily afternoon basis. The Alco-GE RS-2 has remained a favorite of mine.
