When Up Was a Visitor at SP's West Colton

Back in October 1995, I got this shot of some UP units in West Colton. They had just brought a manifest west, and were now heading home light. Does anyone know what this operation was? Did UP have a daily train to interchange with the SP at WC back then? If yes, what was it’s symbol? Also, where were these going? Yerma? East Yard?

Thanks, Charles Freericks

Yes Charles, I believe its symbol was the YRWCM and it came from Yermo.

Zounds!!! A U-Boat in UP paint? A rare thing, this.

According to the UP all time roster the U boat is a C30-7.

It is a C30-7.

Actually Eric, they were probably the 2nd most common unit , at least on the ex WP, between the WP and the widecab era. Albiet a distant second.

Years ago, a Yermo-West Colton interchange run was a regular.

In those days, the Silverwood connection in Cajon Pass hadn’t been built yet, and the Keenbrook connection was in place from the ill fated “Southern Pacific Santa Fe” days, but never used by anyone for years.

Thanks KP, I always wondered about that track but it never dawned on me it was from the SPSF days.
