Where Am I (Junction) #2?

I am at a junction that also has a small freight yard nearby. One leg of the wye was rebuilt in recent years (on a larger radius) after some ‘string-line’ derailments. You can see this junction from the window of an Amtrak or commuter train, but the nearest station is about a mile or so away.
The lines were originally built before the Civil War. Where am I?

Colton CA has all the qualifications[:D][:D]

the SP junction in Sacramento, cant remember what it is called. it’s just west of Roseville.

Actually the junction is in Roseville. Just east of the Roseville yard.

The junction in Sacramento is Elvas tower, but I think the tower is closed.

The junction with the east valley branch is in the middle of Roseville yard

I don’t think they qualify because theres no commuter service, Unless the capitol corridor trains are considered commuter.

If they do my guess is for Elvas.[8D]

I would not consider West Colton or Roseville small yards.

More clues: This junction is not in my “home state”. The reference to the ‘Civil War’ was a hint (this junction was near one of the civil war battle sites).
The yard is much smaller than Roseville.

Well not being to Roseville (E/coast guy) I do not know what you mean about small? Small to me is that little yard beyond the trees that you cannot see on the Rochelle cam only 7/8 tracks. Maybe Atlanta fits or somewhere in the DC area as they have commuter service.

Manassas??

That is a real good guess! [:D][:D]

mhurley87f wins!!! Congrats! Actually I was referring to the junction, which is about a mile west of the station. spbed you were close (it is in the ‘greater Washington DC area’).

I’m not exactly sure when the wye was rebuilt; some time within the past few years. One of the derailments on the former wye actually clipped an adjacent crew office! The realignment resulted in the closure of a street intersection also, with Jackson St. now dead-ending past the crew office.

The passenger trains are the daily Crescent; tri-weekly Cardinal and weekday-only VRE commuter runs.

Thanks but Mhurly nailed it. [:D][:)][:p]
