I have decided to modify my metra cab car so it will have red end l.e.d lights, a headlight, and wig-wag ditch lights. Also i would like a sound decoder with out the loco sounds (or ill find a way to disconnect the loco sound). What im trying to say is i have no clue were to get any on that. I was hoping someone would know were to get at least one of those items.
Well, Miniatronics makes both LEDs for headlights (I like the “golden whites” or “yellow whites,” myself, but I’m stuck back somewhere in the 1960’s, and in the '30’s some days.) and small red LEDs for indicators. I’ve installed the little red guys in a PCC trolley and in the back of a boat-tail observation passenger car. They look great. I just hard-wired them, though, no decoder.
A sound decoder without the loco sounds? Why not put a decoder with the sounds in the powered unit at the other end? Then, you can get a “lights only” decoder for the cab car. That will give you independent control of your lights, including the ditch lights, or you could MU the 2 decoders together for full, single unit control, depending on which DCC system you’ve got.
On some sound decoders, you can independently set the volume of each of the effects. So, you could get a sound decoder and crank the engine sounds way down, while keeping brakes, horn and coupler clash where you want them.
