where can I find a smoke gennerator/unit for HO..

Hi,I want to put a smoke gennerator in my bowser T2 duplex… I need to know whos sells them… I want one thats really puts out the smoke…

The German company Seuthe manufactures smoke units for HO scale steamers, which may be obtained through Walthers. However, their “puff” is not synchronized to the turn of the wheels and therefore, IMHO, does not look very realistic.

I am not aware of any alternative.

This is a Seuthe smoke unit: Steam, just for fun

Look at Factory Direct Trains, they have some. The link should be to the right in the adds.

wished they make a small smoke unit like the aristo-craft UB25 deisel loco has…

In order to provide a flow of smoke that is anywhere near the amount of smoke from the real PRR T1, you’d have to go through about a gallon of smoke fluid an hour, and your layout would be coated with oil. Not to mention, you’ll need an oxygen mask to breathe… [:)]

The PRR T1 was arguably one of the “dirtiest” (smokiest) locos on the Pennsy. The S-2 turbine was worse, but there weren’t enough to make much of a difference.

Be advised that the more smoke your engine puts out, the more oily residue will accumulate on your layout. Almost as bad, you’ll find it on the finish of your locomotive. Not a good thing. I’ve been there, done that, hated it; threw away the T-shirt (and the smoke unit). You might want to reconsider the idea…

To answer your question, Seuthe makes most of the smoke units which are able to be put in an HO locomotive. You can Google it to get all the info you need.

Ok I stumble on a different model railroad site and saw the MTH challanger video with puffing smoke unit like the O gage does…Going to call MTH to see if I can buy that smoke unit from there HO challanger…This new smoke unit could revolionize model railroading…

… I sincerely doubt that - talking of revolution, this is it:

Surely, a revolution I won’t join. For me, smoking is unrealistic and problematic. … Forget me. Enjoy your smoke!

What I’d ment to say it will revolionize the HO trains… Mike Wolf started the realistic sounds on the O gage trains…and better smoke units…Now where seing them on HO’s and smaller trains…What smoke unit you reather have ?A seuthe or the MTH? Me I would rather have a MTH version. It more reallistic and puffs when it chugs…

Will a smoke unit even fit in the T-1? The front motor in mine sits about 1/4" under the smokestack, so I don’t see where it would go. I think the MTH smoke unit is also built into areas that were designed for it, and it would be larger than the others since it’s fan driven. Smoke can be fun for a while, but the others are right about it being messy. Only 5-10 minutes was enough to get little dropplets of oil all over the boiler of my Bachmann 4-8-4 Niagara, and it had to be wiped off every time.

Dark you still have you T1? I’m going to see how it runs on one motor…Been think on maybe remotoring it? maybe a motor driving the back driver with a drive shaft comming out for that motor driving the front drivers like river rossi does with there challanger and bigboys…smoke and sound what make these trains fun to me…Dont know, going to have to have to on my obsions…But maybe going to attach both drivers togther, make it riget,Saw two HO brass version that are riget not semi articuated…Man cant believe That this brass version went for 749 on ebay and this other is going for 1200! With that much money I would buy the big O scale for 1000…

I used to be skeptical of smoke on HO but once I got my hands on MTH’s class J, I’m addicted to it and I’ll never look back. True it can get messy and I have to clean off the boiler top every now and then, but for the effect, its worth it, and I love the smell, even if it doesn’t smell like real loco smoke, it creates a nice effect in the room. People have to keep in mind that you don’t have to even run the smoke on most of the time, its better when used in moderation, but when you use it, its a lot of fun. If you don’t like it, you can always keep the smoke switch set to off on the loco.

I really don’t care for Seathe units at all, these aren’t in the same category at all with Mike’s.

Lionel’s vision line also has made some great progress with smoking toy/model trailns.

Mike has accomplished this…[8D]

Yep Mike did good… If I remember wright Lional doesnt make a HO train…Lional is running the old style smoke unit but has a electric motor on it instead of the old cam driven unit.
