What I’m basically looking for what are the marks that tell you what the car is is for? is there a list somewhere on the net? If so where?
I just googled “reporting marks railroad” and came up with this (among others)

Thanks to everyone for the posts. I actually found what I was looking for. I searched and found that Trains.com the magazine had what I was looking for is freight car classifications. I should have worded what I was looking for but I didnt know what it was called. But still thanks.
Reporting marks tell you who owns the car - not the uses to which the owner puts it. The NHRS has a database that you can use to find out the translation of the reporting marks:
