I have an HO scale Union Pacific GP38-2 that I would like to detail. I have found all of the parts I want except for the two strobes on the cab roof. I have looked at Details West, Details Associates and Walthers and have not found anything that looks like them. Does anyone know where they can be purchased or how to scratch build them? I would be nice if they worked but non-working ones are okay.
Surface mount LEDs, 1.5mm Fibreoptics, orange paint, black paint, white paint and heatshrink wrap. Works every time.

I believe there was also a recent article in MR (maybe 2 or 3 issues back) about scratch-buildiong and installing one in a locomotive. It incorporated heat shrinking an LED like David has suggested. I’ll see if I can’t track down the specific issue for you.
