Recently, I was checking out Bachmann’s official website and I saw a loco I was interested in, the Bachmann Spectrum Dash 8-40CW. I’ve already checked out internettrains.com and First Hobby, but I couldn’t seem to find it. Could anyone tell me where I could possibly find this particular loco? Thanks.
Ebay is pretty good, but I got ripped off a few times before and I stopped using it. [V] For roadnames, I would prefer CSX or Conrail since I have a modern-era layout.
loathar, do you know if Southbound Trains still has any? It’s about an hour drive from here to there and that’s the exact roadname I want. $49? That’s a very good deal! Thanks again.
If you wanted that locomotive go directly to www.Atlasrr.com
This Company is one of the leading producers in locomotives and some of the best looking.
My friend bought a spectrum diesel unit and seemed to have many problems with it. But If you wanted to go and buy a steam loco I would give you the full green light. There steam engines are well done.
The Dash8-40C you can by directly from Atlas.
Think about.

Atlas also makes far better 8-40CW’s in HO than Spectrum does. Check out www.atlasrr.com You can even get them with sound and flashing ditch lights![:D]
I would assume the Atlas model was better, but I thought the Spectrum models looked good, at least in HO, the n models left something to be desired. I have seen them fairly recently at local shops here, so I would assume they are still around. I would check around the hobby stores before resorting to eBay.
I have one of the older Spectrum ones, and while it’s a fine puller, runs smoothly, and has decent detailing, I suspect the overall dimensions are wrong. Compared to an Athearn Dash 9 it’s noticably lower and shorter, while head-on the cab and hood are noticably wider than the Athearn. I’m not too bothered as it was cheap (came from an LHS that had bought a batch at clearance prices) but I’d be inclined to go for Atlas instead if I wanted another one. It just doesn’t look right parked next to the Athearn Dash 9s. The loco may have been retooled since, but it would be worth checking this before handing over the cash.
One place it can be found is trainworld.com, but you might have to wait a while before they send one to you because they always seem to be out of everything. Another place is eBay, where you could get a Buy-it-now DASH 8 for real cheap.
The 8-40CW shown on Bachmann’s site is actually the old one. They are pretty good, but the new versions are 100% improved and rival the Atlas models.[:D] I own one of the old ones and one of the new ones, and they’re both good.
