I live about 25 miles west of downtown Chicago in small suburb. The (former) Milwaukee Road’s west line is two blocks south of me. METRA commuter trains to/from Chicago utilize the line (watching the parade of commuter trains during the evening rush hours is a blast), along with freight traffic. All this double-tracked stretch of line needs to be totally awesome is some Amtrak service thrown in! I’d always be trackside, taking pictures.
