Where do you park your Zephyr?

I am almost to the point of making up a control panel to house the various switches and lights. But where should I keep the Digitrax Zephyr? It will eventually be wireless with a DT400R and UP-5’s. I also have a UT-4 for tethered throttle. With these throttles, will I even need access to the Zephyr? For programming?

Bruce:

I have the setup you are referring to - Zephyr, DT400R, UR91,2 UP5s and a UT4. Although I can do programming with the DT400, I prefer to use the Zephyr panel for programming. My Zephyr is parked in a central location close to the programming track. I’ve found this to be a convenient location.

I keep my DCS 200 and PS 2012 in the box when it is not used. There is a small board that they get set up on. Eventually that board will recieve a handle and a small tray, clamps etc so that I can transport the unit anywhere as long there is 120 volts availible to feed it.

The program track is not pernament, It is a peice of track long enough to hold the engine and two wires.

I park my Zephyrs in the staging yard. My DCC Zephyr lives in a box, but my primary DCC system is Lenz, so it will probably never get to do any “moving on up.”

Are you planning on selling your Digitrax Zerphyr?

I’ve looking for quite some time and It seems like you don’t need it.

Sell train stuff?! What’s that… No, I am trying to have one of every brand so I can talk intelligently about them.

If you sold it you’d have to change your name[;)]

Mine is mounted on a small shelf I made up under the layout. Once I have my new system hooked up I’ll still use it as an extra throttle in my engine service area. One of the roundhouse tracks will be a programming track as well and the Zephyr will be used for that as well.

Right next to my DC power pack because i run both DC and DCC

Even though I use Decoder Pro it’s still nice to be able to view the display to read back CVs

I use it to control the Concord, NH yard switcher. It’s located on a small shelf under the yard, by the waybill & car card boxes.

I’ve equipped my throttles with eyes and have hooks along the fascia:

I’ve also boxes along the fascia. In one I’ve the central unit as well as some boster. OK, I will take another picture. [:)]

Not sure why several people said “in the box” since your question isn’t about not using the Zephyr, it’s whether or not you need access to the Zephyr once you start using wireless or walkaround controllers??

I would say yes you should put it somewhere where you can access it, like a shelf below the layout. AFAIK the Digitrax wireless system doesn’t allow you to use it to program engines, and I know the UT-4 walkaround doesn’t, so if nothing else you will need access to the Zephyr for programming. Perhaps put it under the area your programming track is located?? (I like having the programming track be part of the layout, rather than a separate track.) Plus if there’s a short or something you may need access to turn the power off etc.
