Where Is It 1/14/06

OK, I’ll take a stab at this- I borrowed this shot from somewhere else, but it does show a location that I’m quite familiar with. I’ll credit the source and explain my experiences there after either someone guesses where it is or 24 hours have passed.

What, no guesses? OK, a little hint- don’t let the lead engines throw you off…

Must be on BN somewhere in the upper midwest. That has got to be a lake, and not a river judging by the bank.

nanimo73 is on the right track!

I don’t have a clue.[%-)]

I am going to say that it is either the CP or BNSF on the Mississippi River in Minnesota or Wisconsin. The flowages from the dams on the upper Mississippi would freeze over just the same as any lakes. I am going to go with BNSF because I think CSX power is more likely to be there than on the CP. Just as a WAG, I am going to choose Analaska, WI over Prairie Du Chien and LaCrosse.

PS: Is there a big prize?

Would not there be marks on the rocks from the high water in spring if that was the Mississippi ?
I say Minnesota.

Red Wing,MN

Check the location of the concrete drain pipe. Might be a + or - for my guess, but the water is probably very close to the high mark.

But wouldn’t the river be low when it is frozen over like that ?
It must be a lake.

Morris,MN?

Max, you’ve got it bracketed…

I’ll guess LaCrosse, WI.

Nope, you’re getting colder there. Check Max’s (coborn35) guesses and my response.

That would mean the ex GN Willmar line, right ?

Gotta go run errands- I’ll check back later!

I’m outa here myself, see ya all monday.

…Have no clue…but the photo of the Soo Line engine is beautiful.

Wish someone would establish a “where is it for the east”…

I’ve got enough trouble trying to place your Crandic picture. 6th Street in CR?
Jeff

Close- it’s just a few blocks west, real close to the current CRANDIC headquarters, which is next to the 16 Ave. bridge.

I’ll throw out another clue on this shot- it is a lake in the foreground, in fact a fairly large lake by Minnesota standards.
