This is a thread to post questions about the current location of active RR equipment. To start off, does anyone know the whereabouts of any patched ex-CNW EMD’s especially the last Zito SD40-2?
I would like to know where NS# 3329 is.
According to the last posted data I saw- ex-CNW SD40-2s 2990 (6858) and 3042 (6847) are the only two ex-CNW SD40-2 patches left on the UP system that haven’t been repainted yet- both of these units are in the Old Yellow. Former SD40-2s 6914 (3077) and 3036 (6871) were both repainted some time this fall as I was told- leaving no former Zito SD40-2s on UP. 6866 may still be lurking about there somewhere though as it was retired by UP in 2003 in full Zito yellow paint and purchased by a company in Arkansas. Down here in TX we have former SD50 7005 running in full Zito on the Timber Rock RR as WAMX 5111- with 7005 still on her long hood and 7009 is still running around in Zito for NREX. Hope that helps.
I’m 50 miles from the nearest UP (CNW) rail line, so I hardly ever see a UP engine. One question, though, what’s a “Zito”?

Murphy,
Zito Yellow was the nickname given to the CNW’s Safety Yellow (or as others called it “Sunburst Yellow”) that debuted on CNW locos and equipment in 1982. Thankfully CNW reverted back to a new version of their original Stagecoach Yellow in 1991 after non-lead based mixes of the Zito began fading to pale white within a short time after repainting (i.e. the C40-8s and coal service SD40-2s).
