Where is it?

I found this video on you tube and I was wondering where it is? The caption says tunnel hill, but then I googled it and found that there are many “tunnel hills”. So anyone know where this tunnel is? Its pretty neat how the rails are still there. Anyone know who owned the line and how long its been since there have been trains there? Or maybe why it was abandonded. If its not to far from me I might go snap some photos. Heres the link to the vid…

I don’t have a clue, but perhaps some of the other forum visitors do? Just to start the ball rolling, is your road Eastern, Western or Canadian?

I imagine if you do post pix, the tunnel recognition would come much more quickly

I looks eastern to me. There is much vegetation around it, it is stone lined, and the portal is stone.

By the way, if you hit the space bar or return after pasting in the link, the software will activate the link.

Definitely looks eastern and kids accents also sound eastern (but not new England).

Do the kids’ clothes give an indication of this segment beging fairly recent or more “retro”?

If you click on the name krimsonsky00, it will take you to a list of her other videos. One of them was done at Clear Creek State Park, which according to Google, is in Pennsylvania.

She goes to Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, but I’m guessing the tunnel is closer to her home town, wherever that may be; perhaps not terribly far away.

I’m thinking there’s a bridge near a tunnel in the Lehigh River Gorge in eastern Pennsylvania, and the railroad is abandoned, but I can’t remember if the tracks were in existence.

It’s not Tunnel Hill, Georgia–those tracks, even if they are operated by CSX, should look better than that.

If Tunnel Hill is indeed a geographic name, one should check an old Official Guide for possibilities. I’d do it, but I must be off to work.

…I too looked around the internet and way too many choices of “tunnel Hill”…Saw a lot of interesting tunnels in my quest.

It almost looks like the same tunnel used in the video for Josh Turner’s Long Black Train…

The rail looked rather light, and unused for some time. I also got the impression that the tunnel was wide enough (at least at one time) for two tracks.

if its “Tunnel Hill” thats on the old W&A RR line in Georgia [:)]

They built a new tunnel in the 1920’s im not sure if the tracks were removed from the old one, its still there though

I’ve seen that video somewhere before. I think it was part of a kids Halloween TV special about “huanted” places. I believe that was the segment on “ghost trains.”

The bridge at the end looks rather new though doesnt it??

Assuming that Tunnel Hill is actually its correct name, there were 3 such locations that I am aware of. Tunnel Hill, GA was on the NC&StL between Chattanoga and Atlanta which today is a busy CSX main line so we can rule that spot out. There was a Tunnel Hill, KY on the former L&N but I’m not sure where that was nor the status of that trackage today. It definitely could be Tunnel Hill, IL which was on the Big Four (NYC) line from Chicago to Cairo in the Ozarks of far southern Illinois. IIRC that line was abandoned in the Conral era and is a very likely location of the video.
