Where is Joe Fugate's Siskiyou Line Volume 2?

Did I miss something? I thought volume 2 was to be shipped in September. I am jonesing for the next chapter! Joe, when will it be released? Please let us know.

Hey Joe, are you out there?

BC

Yes, I’m here.

The release date of Volume 2 is set now at October 22. Remember, myMemoirs Video is a small family business and my son-in-law doesn’t have hordes of people he can call on so if he gets sick or needs to take a few days off, nothing happens while he’s gone. And he has other projects he’s doing to feed the family, so he will work on those things as well.

Volume 2 will cover the design and construction of my HO Siskiyou Line layout. From the back cover of the video is an outline of the contents:

  • Multi-deck layout design concepts
  • Designing the track plan on computer
  • Mushroom multi-deck benchwork stick-by-stick
  • Mushroom raised floor construction
  • Multideck layout lighting
  • Spline roadbed construction how-to
  • Laying flex track how-to
  • Critical design and construction mistakes to avoid
  • “Beauty shots” of newly finished layout area

Special features:

  • EasyThrow turnout control tips and tricks
  • Layout analysis and design by formula slide presentation

All I can say is we’ve pulled out the technology stops on this one and it will be worth the wait!

That is awesome! Thanks for keeping us up to date.

Bill

Glad to hear the video is moving along. The first one was so good that I can’t wait to see the second one. And since I’ve just started construction on my new layout the timing couldn’t have been any better. Keep up the good work!!

John

Nice to hear there’s good interest in the second volume.

As a chronical of what I have done to design, construct, and operate my Siskiyou Line, this is “learning by example” since I tell you what I have done, what works, where I screwed up, how I would do it differently next time, etc.

I know I greatly benefited from Allen McClelland doing this sort of in-depth chronical on his “V&O Story” in Railroad Model Craftsman back in the late 70’s.

I’m hoping that this video series is sort of a visual “V&O Story” on my Siskiyou Line, and that you can find useful ideas and inspiration in each volume.

I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas! It’s geting closer but its not here just yet. LOL

Yep, putting the finishing touches on the spline and tracklaying demos this weekend, and then should go to sound postproduction and DVD production next week.

It’s gonna be close … [:)]

New release date … Oct 29.

We looked at the first draft of the DVD and could probably ship it Mon Oct 25th, but elected to delay and correct some issues we found, to add in a bit more info to claify some points … etc. Should only add a couple of days to production, but decided to give it a week to make sure we find everything and give me time to collect a lot of nice extra PC files to add onto the DVD.

It’s getting real close, and lookin’ good.

Joe,

I am sure we all appreciate the effort you have gone to and I hope you will forgive us for our impatience…I’m sure it will be worth the wait. If it wasn’t so good nobody would care.

Richard

I am going to wait until Its all out, then order the boxed set.

James.

James:

That’s certainly a valid way to go … you will get about 400 minutes (6 hours) of how to by example info all in one fell swoop going that route.

We do have some people who’s layout is a-building now, so they’re hungry for the info to help them with the next step in the process … so waiting another year for all the videos isn’t a good option for them.

What ever works!

My layout is in the building mode, so I elected to get the DVD’s as they come out. The timing looks to work real well with the layout construction. Plus this way I get to watch each one, then watch it again when the next one comes out. As for moving the date back, that’s not a problem, based on the first volume the extra wait will be worth it! Maybe I’ll have to fire up the DVD player tonight just so I can watch the first volume again. LOL

Thanks for letting us know the Status of the DVD.

John

Joe,

I think the fact that you are sharing your lessons learned building your model railroad is a very good Idea. I have been a fan of your modeling since I first came across it in Model Railroader several years ago. (Jan 1998 sound right?) And a whole series of videos about your layout would be a cool thing for me to have. But being in college my budget is some what limited, and since I obviously have very little layout buidling time. I can save up my money and wait.

I have a pretty good idea of how I want my model railroad. And I even for my young age I am pretty well expereinced. (Been modeling since the age of 4. That makes model railroading for 18 years or so) So while Southern Pacific in Oregen isn’t my cup of tea. I recognize exellent model railraoding when I see it, and I dare say 25 years from now, you will be remembered as one of the Pioneering hobbyists who was here at the turn of 21st century. I hope to one day join the ranks of you, Allen McClellend, John Allen, John Armstrong, and the several other exellent modelers recognized as pioneering visionaries of the hobby. I just got to finish college first.[8D]

if you are interested, I posted a discussion that intruduced my sequence time table for my model railroad a while back. Here is the link of you want to read it. http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?page=-1&TOPIC_ID=20798&REPLY_ID=194459#194459

Thank you Mr. Fugate for being a talented model railroader and an inspiration for me to bet

In case you are curious … volume 2 is now shipping!

Great!! I can hardly wait until it arrives. I’ve watched the first one at least 3 times so far and I’m sure volume 2 will be just as good. [:D]

John

Yes, although the MYMemoirs little shipping office will be swamped for the next week to ship all the subscriptions and orders for vol 2. Be patient! It should ship sometime this week … you will get an email the day it ships, with tracking information.

Volume 2 is mostly how I did the design and construction, with lots of design and construction tips thrown in along the way. I also demo the masonite spline and flex track laying on the spline.

Its here!!! Now if I can just get thru work so I can watch it![:D]

John

And let us know what you think of it …
