In the Twin Cities, where is the 261s shop? From what I have heard the 4449 is there too. I watched the 4449 go by on monday but would love to see it up close if legal and possible. For anyone replying I’ll be out of state till monday.
The shop is on Harrison Street a couple of blocks north of Hennepin in northeast Minneapolis. It sits in the middle of a wye on a site that was once a roundhouse facility.
Milwaukee 261’s tender and water car were parked outside when I was there, but unless some kind soul is willing to allow you access to the building, both engines are inside and not visible. Perhaps if you dropped by on a Saturday morning, some of the crew might be performing maintenance.
When I visited the shop you could gain limited access to the inside by making a donation to the Friends of 261 organization and a volunteer would give you a brief tour, but things may have changed.
