LION has been looking and looking. First at the cover, and then at the track diagram on page 48(?). The location of the cover shot is not marked, and I cannot figure out where on that diagram there might be a two track main line, close to the back drop, with a highway running in front of it, presumably along the table edge.
The REASON why the LION became interested is because of the interlocking tower. LIONS like interlocking plants and their towers, and him was wondering what an interlocking tower was doing on a stretch of tracks that (apparently) has no switches near it.
So somebody help the LION to find where this photo was taken in relation to the diagram.
Thanks,
ROAR
LION,
I got a feeling that you are going to have to contact Paul Dolkos at MR mag or one of the members of the club that own the layout. Tough, if not impossible, for the casual observer to pin point the location of that tower.
Rich
Look at the track plan on page 45…just to the left of Bloomsbury where the highway bridge is…that is the scene of the cover photo…
…the track plan does not show the tower…the article/trackplan is actually 3 years old and just now got into the magazine.
Ok, Now I can see where it is. Not to be a nit-picker, but, why don’t the tower windows face the tracks?

So that visitors to the layout can see the inside.
I spent over an hour trying to find the location of the cover. what confused me was the location of the road to the outside of the track in the picture and no road being shown on the outside on the diagram, just a short road going under the overpass on the inside if the tracks.
Switch points for the crossover are visible just to the right of the tower roof. the other switch is obscured by the signals, the tower, and the shadow of the first boxcar…
I have also discovered that sometimes the photos are mirror images of what is shown on the actual trackplan. Really throws a wrench in trying to figure out where the scene is,
