Second, the January issue goes on sale next week, so it’s possible your hobby stores are sold out of the December issue already.

FWIW, I am happy to see the S coverage (though I don’t have S myself). I was delighted to find a short article on an IVES SG train–we need more SG! I haven’t read the article by the young lady yet, but I look forward to it.
