Where is the good news?

Please stop. Everyone.

Becky: It was a demeaning term used by CMStPnP for the new member (AnericanFlyer) who posted about his or her experiences riding various trains in Asia.

York: There is nothing wrong with examining why a new forum member was driven away. We need new members.

My wife rode the HSR day train from Beijing to Shanghai last November. She described it a fast (4.5 hours for 819 miles) comfortable, full and on time. Obviously it was safe.

If we could have a comparable service from Chicago to NYC in 5 hours, it would dominate the air routes.

I did not see that. Who? Clearly it was a violation of forum rules. I suppose the moderator gave her a warning to remove.

I agree completely

One reads that this is a friendly Forum then sees threads go way off topic and close to being abusive to members.

Remember the Forum rules everyone.

Whoa, this thing went off the rails quickly! How about NS slowly rebuilding the routes in Western North Carolina as good news! And Tweetsie was able to reopen for the past Christmas season.
And I am getting closer to to getting my railroad started

It went off the rails when CMStPnP renewed his diatribe against what he called the “China shill” ( Indonesia person).

Sure hope that blue line from Toronto to Detroit doesn’t assume the CASO! They have an unpleasant surprise if so.

True HSR to the Twin Cities by way of both Milwaukee and Madison??? We had threads about that a year or so ago! Can it actually be built with American priorities and support?

Whose route is going to be built out through Fort Wayne to Chicago? Be fun to do it on the ex-PRR…

… and I really, really want to see what they do for full high-speed running on the line from Nashville to Louisville, with all the freight traffic connecting via Bowling Green…

Yup, recycled discussion. Madison not likely to ever see direct passenger rail from Milwaukee in our lifetimes. I don’t even think the WisDOT rail manager is doing anything with it.

My business career spanned 39 years with three different Fortune 200 corporations. I had management roles in HR, Accounting, Finance and Audit. For the last 15 years I reported to the CFO, CEO, and Board Audit Committee.

The executive team and the board of each company - none were railroads - were mindful of the need to optimize shareholder wealth over time. But it was not their sole or even primary concern. Their major concern was making sure the company was offering products and services that customers wanted and making money by delivering on customer wants. They also had to address the concerns of employees, regulators, politicians, community activists, etc. They kept a large number of balls in the air at the same time. None of the companies that I worked for, all of which were heavily regulated, rolled over for fund managers.
