I found this awesome picture of an abandoned trestle on the internet:
I am dying to know where this is! GIven the foliage, I am thinking pacific northwest, but I cannot find any more details above and beyond that. If anyone knows, please let me know!
Yes it is a really impressive picture - I just found it in a collection of pictures of abandoned places, not a rail specific site at all. Given the age of the picture, I am really wondering if that trestle is around today (which would warrant a visit!). I tried doing a google reverse image search to see if I can get clues of its location, but that was to no avail. So I posted it here as a last ditch effort in hopes that perhaps someone will see and know!
My comment: I do not see any water barrels. They may have been on the other side of the bridge. The water barrels were something placed on a wooden trestle in case of fire. Particularly true if part of the year was dry like the Northwest. Thx IGN
I’m pretty certain it is the Kinsol Trestle on Vancouver Island, from when the CNR had trackage there. The photo is taken from the south end. If you google the name you can find all the details. It was last used about 1979, if I recall correctly. Recently it has been reopened as part of a rail trail, after a lot of work to make it passable again. It’s a very impressive structure, including a short truss portion down at the bottom spanning the river to support the trestle bents across that portion.
