My currently very damp garage due to all this [censored] [censored] rain were getting.
…but not to worry, I’ll be dealing with the 100+ degree days of summer and the invasion of the cobspiders and wasps soon enough.
My layout is in the basement. There’s lots of room for expansion as it is 1330sq feet of unfinished space! The garage would be a nice location, especially for gettmy layout out of the house if I ever moved…but unfortunately it is not a heated space and winters up here in Canada can get very cold. Example, I use my garage to store my beer in the winter!

Wow, that’s cold to be able to store beer in your garage.
I’d want something stronger than beer in that temperature![(-D]
My house is a split-foyer, so the garage is my only option.
Basement…it’s 1100sq feet and completely unfinished…and the lady said I can have the entire thing!
Mine is in a spare room and shares space with the computer desk, the drafting table/worktable, bookcases, music studio/practice space and general storage. However (clears throat for radio voice)…No Space is No Excuse!
my layout is an around the walls type in my finished family room. i have a wood stove for heat, 35" tv, a comfortable couch for taking naps, a recliner-rocking chair, a computer, pergo wood floor and central ac for those hot summer days.
Hi Guys,
My layout is in the attic which we finished with heating, air conditioning, carpet etc. My wife has an area for sewing and of course I got most of the space for the layout (not that she ever complains about it).
We’ve been considering moving but I’m so used to all the natural light upstairs that if we find a new home, it has to have a walk-out basement so I can have windows. I don’t want to look like a squinting mole when I come out of the basement…just kidding!
Have fun,
Mondo
My layout is located in my den. We have bilevel house with the main living areas in the upper level. We had to do some remodling of south half of the lower level A photographic darkroom was removed resuliting in a 28’ by 12’ room which houses my train layout and home office. The layout is 9’ by 9’ 44.5 " above the floor. The space under the layout is used for storage–mostly train related in plastic contaners.

My layout occupies a 25’ by 20’ area in the basement - nice, warm, & dry. The ‘other’ half of the basement has a laundry/utilities, bath, and the railroad lounge(err, family room).

Right now mine is in my head.
My wife decided we should sell our house with a large lot with a 1200 sq ft separate building, and move to a golf course house with no extra room, and we don’t golf, but we bought a golf cart. I am looking at buying another small house in the golf community to use as a train house.

My HO “Can-AM” railroad is in the basement. I constructed a room around the layout - now how’s that for doing things backwards?
This trainroom of mine occupies about half of the basement (approx 1800 sq ft) and the layout is a walk around type within everything “just about” reachable.
We installed a whole house dehumidifier and air purifier, which ended the dampness (mildew and mold) and made the air smell a lot better. Oh yes, I do have a mini-fridge stocked with my favorite adult beverage - when “off duty,” of course!
my layout is going to be in my living room… seeing as I don’t have a garage or a basement and my bedroom is filled with animals… so a small 2.5 X 5 layout is what I am doing.
“California Basement”, also known as a garage. Nobody parks their cars in the garages in California, so it’s a perfect (well, almost) place to set up an empire. Right now I’m negotiating a land deal for the other side of the garage so that I can put in a roundhouse, turntable, and a big, BIG yard! We’ll see how far I get. I just have to remember to make the lift-out section wide enough to haul in a washer and dryer, in case mine go on the blink and I have to get new ones. Envy you guys with basements, even if they get cold enough to store beer!

My basement doesn’t get that cold, but then again we never get cold weather in Georgia!
Mine is going to be along the longest wall in my basement. I would prefer my bedroom, but that would mean 9 3/4" curves, though my basement does get rather cold…
Mine’s in the basement as well. Would you believe that when my parents were first looking for a house in town that they almost bought one without a basement? Thankfully, they decided to have a house built which included the basement my layout is in. I can’t imagine my life without it.
All the room i have is in my basement
Small house here, with 9 1/2 by 19 basement for trains. 4 by 8 feet of that area is furnace and water heater, leaving basically 9 1/2 by 11, with a 5 /12 by 8 area coming off the main room. The smaller space is just enough on the end for 30" minimum double tracked horseshoe curve! You gotta have an imagination in some spaces! I like the beer storage idea, but darn, the place is actually pretty warm, and almost nothing is more disgusting than warm beer, unless it’s a duck-under, after a few beers.
