Where should companies put their panels and signs

Hi everybody. Last summer I saw a very interesting thread here that explained how and where publicist should put panels with signs in real life. I lost the link and I tried searching with no results.

Can anybody tell me where is this thread?

Nobody knows what I’m talking about?

Well, maybe elaborate just a bit? A publicist works with an author to publish books, yes? Panels with signs? Electrical panels, control panels? Signs like billboards mounted to a building? Maybe one of Pelle Søeborg’s articles?

Maybe just a little more info on what you’re looking for and somebody certainly would be glad to point you in the right direction…

Take care, Ed

Sorry, my message was not very precise because I was searching the word “Billboard”. My first language is french so.

I am searching for a thread I saw last summer on this forum. On the thread there was an article (I think it’s an article) that explains where publicist should post their billboard to assure maximum visibility. I think the article was an old article of the fifties or sixties but I’m not sure.

I did an index search of Model Railroader articles with the word Billboard (under Resources in the upper right “Magazine Index”) http://trc.trains.com/Train%20Magazine%20Index.aspx?view=SearchResults&q=billboard

Perhaps your article is there? There are 79 matches…

Bonne chance et bonne modélisation!

Ed

If your talking about highway billboards then that depends on era…You see modern billboards are located several hundred feet from the highway…

Why?

Less of a distraction so saith the NTSB.

It also can depend on locale and city ordinance. In Bend, Oregon, (where I live) they can’t have business signs above a certain height. It’s stupid. You have to be within a block, or even half of one to locate a motel, gas station, etc.

Thanks gmpullman but I can’t read those articles. I think that the original poster of the thread put a link about this subject and I could have access to the link with no problem.

On your list, I can’t access the articles by clicking on them.

Well, Warrior, there’s a reason for that. Our hosts here help cover their costs by selling back issues or CD compilations of the magazine. I’m sure if you try several other search attempts at Google you will find your article, especially if you originally saw it on-line. Keep trying!

Ed

I undersant gmpullman but the thread I’m talking about had a link to an article that we didn’t have to subscribe to be able to read it.

I should save that article when I saw it last summer. It was very helpful for model railroader because it explained where we should put our billboard.

Nobody has any idea where is this post?

Is this it???

Thanks Dan but it’s not the post I was searching for. For what I remember there was an article or a pdf document in which they explain everything about where real publicist should post their billboards to increase maximum visibility. I tought it would be nice to have this document when the time comes and I need to ask myself where should I put those billboards …

Thanks again Dan

Billboards?

Billboards for highway and roadways are usually next to the roads. I don’t understand why you are making it complicated? Just place them so that the cars can view them from the roadway.

Also go drive around your city and look and see where the Billboards are placed.

It’s just that it was a very good article about the subject.

Well…see the thing is that there’s no “right” in this issue. Billboards, signs, and all that are all controlled by local laws so you’re not going to find a standard or even optimal positioning. Even if an article claimed there’s such a thing, it doesn’t exist. In my town of Alexandria, VA, the best position for a billboard is “none, they’re illegal.”

Ok thanks NittanyLion for the tip.

Wish the NTSB would say no to those exceedingly bright LED display board signs. At night they are as glaring as an oncoming car with its brights on. Just destroys your night vision.

You are right rrinker. Do LED or NEON display existed in the fifties or sixties or they came after that period?

Neon signs were all over buildings in the 50’s. The LED billboards are very much modern things.
