I need to get some bus wiring and am looking for 12awg. Where is the best place to get about 50’ of the stranded type wire?
It involves some work, but I just went out and bought an extension cord and stripped off the orange coating. Took a while but was a a lot cheaper. You may be able to get away without stripping it totally, and just in the places you need to.
Wal-Mart - Lowe’s - Home Depot
Take your pick.
Most extension cords are 16 gauge. The best thing to do and the stuff isn’t all that expensive is to go to Home Depot or Lowes.
Welcome to the forum. In my town there is a surplus place called Axman’s that has wire. There are also some recycle places that will have heavy gauge wire. I got some buss strips by taking apart an old tube type electronic organ.
Good luck.
[#welcome] For that little amount you can get some by going to an electrical contactor and ask if the have a drop spool on a truck. When the spools get that short they change them out at the shop. I picked up a partial in Cat5e cable since you can not splice it for a few cents.
Spools for lowes or home depot are the cheapest. If you have them CUT the spool to length it is more money, in some case double the cost. Look at the price tags and you will see.
Thanks to all and thanks for the welcome. I will try those places too and what about the web? any ideas their?
From you time stamp , you have listed 0 GMT, So I assume you live in England. I don’t know if they have Home Depot or Lowes in England, but they must have general Hardware stores that sell wire. If not, you can either contact an electrician to see if he can give/get you some, or, as some others have suggested, strip down an extension cord…
